A French American or Franco-American is a citizen of the United States of America of French descent and heritage. The majority of Franco-American families did not arrive directly from France, but rather settled French territories in the New World (primarily in the 17th and 18th centuries) before moving to the United States later on (see Quebec diaspora and Great Upheaval). About thirteen million U.S. residents are of French descent, and about 1.5 million of them speak the French language at home. Being isolated, mixed with different cultures or ignored the French-Americans developed particular cultures that reflect various of degrees of adaptation of their environments. This gave birth to streams of French-Americans like the Acadians, the Cajuns (literally Acadian pronounced with a southern accent), Louisianans and many others.

Hi, I was wondering if you might be interested in becoming an administrator on Wikipedia? :Just an editor, never commented in an RFA before, but my two cents are: per WP:ANI#Returning_troll, Wikipedia needs mores Kiwi and Aussie admins - indeed, more admins outside Europe and North America.

Hi, I just noticed your edit to List of Dog Breeds; capitalising the first letter of the category name doesn't appear to be necessary. For example; in this version the link to :Category:Dog types appears the same as in this version where you had fixed it, so the edit (and the others like it) seem rather inconsequential. <span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:80%;font-weight:bold;">~ <span style="color:black;">User:Ameliorate!</span></span> (with the !) :I've modified the script so that the tab only appears when a link to give DYK credits is followed. So on an ordinary edit page, no tab should appear but if you follow the credit link in this: Some article the tab should appear. Aside from that I'm stumped about that bug that made the pluses show up, the URL for the credit link includes <code>articleget=Article+name</code> and the script pulls the name from there, pluses and all, but there's a line of code that replaces any plus with a space, the only thing I can think of is that when you clicked the tab, the script hadn't completely loaded and so the pluses were never replaced. I've tried to replicate it but can't seem to, would you mind following the credit link for List of awards and nominations received by Green Day (in this revision) and seeing if clicking the tab adds pluses again? It's because I have to use fixed algorithms but the content in the edits can be entirely random, in this case it was particularly messy but I will see if I can use anything in that diff to try and improve what is picked up. If so, how? John Dufresne: It is this primal landscape that shapes us as it shapes the characters in our stories. "You write from where you are," William Stafford said. I write from being a French Canadian/American who grew up on what had been called French Hill until the Irish and Italians muscled us out. And then it was Grafton Hill. Novelist David Plante, author of novels about growing up French Canadian not far from my home, says: "Franco-American culture is gone, and perhaps the only way to have written about it was to believe it was over even while it was being written about. Les vrais paradis sont les paradis perdus might have been said by Proust about an entirely different world, but it applies--with the difference that the Franco past was never a paradise." Grafton Hill was in the fifties and sixties as exclusively Catholic and blue collar as neighborhoods get. Jobs ran to the trades, factories, and public service. This is about the Kayzoo Speedy deletion, I see it was deleted.
I just wanted to say that one of the very first things I wrote to you about the hold on the speedy deletion was. I was not finished writing about it.
I would think when someone said they were not finished writing about a subject you would give them a few days to finish.
Thanks. Gehaner (talk) 22:57, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Adminship?

Hi, I was wondering if you might be interested in becoming an administrator on Wikipedia? Having looked through your contributions, I think you have sufficient experience to do a good job. If you are willing to run at RFA, I would be happy to nominate you. WJBscribe (talk) 01:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, if you are, I'll certainly support you. ~ Troy (talk) 01:27, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Just an editor, never commented in an RFA before, but my two cents are: per WP:ANI#Returning_troll, Wikipedia needs mores Kiwi and Aussie admins - indeed, more admins outside Europe and North America.
Happy to lend my support.
Cheers,  This flag once was red  20:00, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
I'd be happy to write a co-nom if you and WJBscribe won't object to it. - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 23:11, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
I would be happy to accept a co-nom. And I'd like to thank Troy and Flag for their offers of support, much appreciated :) ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 06:40, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry I am a later getting this finished than I had intended. Best of luck, WJBscribe (talk) 15:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I've written up the nom, and it's good to go. All the best for your RfA! - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 16:52, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Your edits

Hi, I just noticed your edit to List of Dog Breeds; capitalising the first letter of the category name doesn't appear to be necessary. For example; in this version the link to Category:Dog types appears the same as in this version where you had fixed it, so the edit (and the others like it) seem rather inconsequential. ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 09:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

It is part of the WikiProject Check Wikipedia in which such small things as categories beginning with a small letter are fixed. Giving each category a big letter is very useful for people who use the dump. Please contact Stefan Kühn for more information. Dr. Breznjev (talk) 10:04, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

dykeasymode.js

Two things :

 1. [1] Click on the dykcredit tab gave this tonight
 2. It would be great if the dykcredit tab is able to hide itself except "User_talk:" space; My other scripts in monobook.js is able to do so, you may want to borrow part of its code.

- Cheers, Mailer Diablo 22:58, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I've modified the script so that the tab only appears when a link to give DYK credits is followed. So on an ordinary edit page, no tab should appear but if you follow the credit link in this: Some article – Ameliorate! (give) (tag) the tab should appear. Aside from that I'm stumped about that bug that made the pluses show up, the URL for the credit link includes articleget=Article+name and the script pulls the name from there, pluses and all, but there's a line of code that replaces any plus with a space, the only thing I can think of is that when you clicked the tab, the script hadn't completely loaded and so the pluses were never replaced. I've tried to replicate it but can't seem to, would you mind following the credit link for List of awards and nominations received by Green Day (in this revision) and seeing if clicking the tab adds pluses again? Thanks, ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 06:28, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Note to self: Script could auto tag the article talkpage when the link is clicked. ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 15:33, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

AmeliorationBot

Hi, I just noticed a case of AmeliorationBot making a change that didn't really fix anything, and thought you might want to know. Diff here: [2]. I already fixed the page, so no worries there. hbent (talk) 19:20, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

It removed the Example.oggs but I see what you mean. It's because I have to use fixed algorithms but the content in the edits can be entirely random, in this case it was particularly messy but I will see if I can use anything in that diff to try and improve what is picked up. Thanks for fixing the article and letting me know. Cheers, ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 01:37, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations, you are now an administrator!

Congratulations, you are now an administrator - and with an overwhelming majority of editors supporting your RfA! Now is the time to visit the Wikipedia:New admin school and, if you haven't already, to look through the Wikipedia:Administrators' how-to guide and Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or at the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Warofdreams talk 18:22, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations from Auckland! One of my concerns about Wikipedia has been that admins seem concentrated in the US and Western Europe, and it can be a free-for-all at certain times of the day. I hope more admins in different timezones (UTC+13, for example) will help address that. Oh, and I think you'll personally make a damn fine admin no matter where you are.
