2005 English cricket season (8-30 April)

I found your immmediate withdrawal of that article from peer review, your reasons given for it, and your comments on Mav's talk page to be odd. For one, I found Mav's comments on PR to be correct, and even if they weren't how does one comment make immediate unfair treatment? Maybe there's a larger issue going on I am unaware of, but if there is, that should be separated from this issue. This seems to be a case of making a much greater issue than there is and being way over sensitive about (all I can see as) one comment. Forgive me if the issue is resolved, but there seemed to be a disconnect between your comments and what occurred. Specifically, you asked for peer review, got it, and in response asked for mediation regarding the comments. I think you should heed the comments, discuss it where appropriate, and leave it at that. 1. Please apply all windows updates from the microsoft site. A newer version of IE is available which corrects the bugs that you saw recently in Gangtok. My version is 6.0.2900.2180. Alternatively use Mozilla or Opera (I use that).
2. I saw many instant messengers open. Go to Run> and type "msconfig" (without quotes). Once open navigate to the "Startup" tab and disable all the unnecessary stuff such as yahoo, win messenger etc. Keep AVG on and a firewall on too. restart comp. It saves a lot of memory.
3. Why do you watch the main page?

Instantnood and the MTR

Hello, I found your name on the arbitration committee briefing on Instantnood. I found the evidence presented disturbing, as a very similar situation is developing over on the MTR page. Instantnood has taken it upon himself to change the formatting for all the article names without discussion, and to also change the bolded name in the articles to create redundancy. I am attempting to engage him in discussion, although after reading the evidenece presented on the ArbCom page, it may perhaps be futile. Discussion over this is taking place at here, and any support you could lend would be appreciated, as I cannot seem to find what the final verdict of the ArbCom was. Thank you! Why don't

you just stick to editing articles, and stay away from the Wikipedia: namespace? The importance of all the goings-on in there is often vastly over-inflated; no-one who's just working on content cares, really. Have you left because of the CE/AD debate / cricket categories? Regarding the CE-AD debate, its so trivial, I don't see why you have to get so flustered about it. I don't have any idea on what the majority ruling was as you say on your page. (oh, and in case you might have thought I was deliberately following you around by getting involved in the 2005 season transclusion debate, I actually stumbled across that one on my own and it reminded me to check up on the category situation). I've been consistently on the opposite side from you on the CE/AD and style debates, and, yes, I think that your method of achieving your preferences wasn't the right way to go, but I have no wish to see you leave. I had not realised that you had left. I am new to WP. I am not that familiar with how WP operates. Knowing, now, what happened to you is a warning to me and to others. Cricket matches on VfD

Although I did not realize that the specific matches were part of a series, I also think that the VfD process should be allowed to work - you can make a case for keeping these articles there. I am, quite frankly, uncomfortable with the idea that individual matches would have articles of their own, unless the particular matches had some greater historical noteworthiness (e.g., if one of the athletes were to collapse and die on the field). I am imagining this being used as the justification for articles on the 2400+ 1200 yearly NBA basketball games, or the nearly 5000 2500 MLB baseball games. Would you consider something along the lines of merging them by date? -- BD2412 ^talk June 28, 2005 21:53 (UTC)

• I truly understand your point of view, having had to justify articles I've written on vfd before (one is up there right now) - and occasionally having seen my own fair labor undone in the process. However, I do not think I will come around to the point of view that a non-championship meeting between teams is generally noteworthy enough to merit an individual article.   • I'm not trying to be unreasonable, but there is nothing in the articles themselves that would lead a casual observer to believe that these games had any special significance above that of any other meeting between any two professional sports teams. I'm afraid I don't see how they can all be championship games - maybe Cricket determines its champions in a way to which I'm unaccustomed, but in my experience a championship game only includes the single game or series played by the two top teams in the sport to determine which one will wear the crown for the season. Please have faith in the VfD process - you can continue to make the case for keeping the individual articles there. -- BD2412 ^talk June 28, 2005 22:30 (UTC)

You've added a cricket newsgroup on the links page. Only I can't see how to access it - I clicked on it and it took me to some Outlook Express wizard thing (and I don't use Outlook Express although it's installed). To access newsgroups or bulletin boards, you will need to know your ISP news server. It goes something like this: news.ISP NAME.com OR nntp.ISP NAME.com. I'm not sure (but I think) there are free news servers out there too. Will have to query in Reference Desk. Outlook Express is the default news reader for windows. I think its selected via the Tools> menu of Internet Explorer when you surf. If you wan't to avoid the hassle of Outlook Express to read a post, then Google groups has enabled access to the usenet servers, so all you have to do is to create an account and start posting there. Thanks for not opposing my adminship. I realize that I have perhaps never complied with your criteria, which I do regard as sensible. In my post-hoc defense, I'd like to say that I have contributed to several featured articles after they'd achieved featured status. I have high regard for featured articles and also recognize that they are only one aspect of the project. I have re-opened the issue of the royal stub at [3]. I think having it produce a noble link is farcical. Those who did it originally were no doubt well meaning but I don't think they really understood what they were doing. Nobility and royalty are not the same. Your opinions would be welcomed.

7 July 2005 London bombings

Hi. I notice when you did your copyedit of this article you overwrote most of my own work from about 15 minutes before, and some other people's edits. Was this intentional? I wouldn't mind about that, beause individual changes can be discussed, although I thought a lot of them were surely beneficial, such as making sure we didn't have present tense "a bomb explodes" everywhere, and various rearrangements I did. I suspect what happened though is that you had an edit conflict and chose to overwrite my edits instead of merging them, as I did with others' edits when I made my own copyedit. Intercontinental Cup

If you move a page, then you are supposed to take care of all the double redirections. But if you move the page to make a disambiguation page, then you MUST do so!!! Intercontinental cup was a very popular page (around 70 wikilinks), and it's mainly known under that name, not as European/South American Cup. I think it would have been a lot wiser to make comment at the beginning of the article, such as in the Napoleon I of France article reading:

if you are looking for the first-class cricket see ICC Intercontinental Cup.

Links should mow point to European/South American Cup as [[European/South American Cup|Intercontinental cup]] or, if it had already a different phrase as [[European/South American Cup|old text]].

Re: History of Cricket

Actually, I got that info from the external link to CricInfo at the bottom of the page. I'm not sure of the accuracy of the pre-12th century theories, which is why I included them with a "some theories" disclaimer, making sure to point out they were speculative rather than established facts. But the 1183 description by Joseph of Exeter is well-documented in many places. I had only just found the excellent Cricket portal but was disappointed that you had left just as I had hoped to get involved in it (which I have now anyway and happily discovered you're back to help run the good ship). But sycophanticism aside, I've left a message on the talk page for the Cricket project regarding how I might contribute to the project despite my limited knowledge. While I'm not pressing for an answer, I thought I'd flag it up anyway as I hope my suggestion can come in handy. Wettin

Please stop removing references to the Royal Family surname of Wettin pre-1917. It is 100% correct. I double-checked the information some time ago with Buckingham Palace who confirmed it. The Royal House name was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, but Queen Victoria was informed that that was not her marital surname. She had her Private Secretary research the question of what was Albert's (and so by marriage her) surname. She was informed it was Wettin. So all the Royals descended from her until 1917 had a personal name of Wettin, and a Royal House name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. In 1917 George V changed both Royal House and personal surname to Windsor. Or as the Columbia Encyclopædia says

The name Wettin, family name of Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, consort of Queen Victoria, was changed to Windsor by George V in 1917.
