Bette Dam (born 1979) is a Dutch investigative journalist[1][2] and author,[3] living in Brussels, Belgium.[4][5]

Early life and Professional career

From 2002 to 2005, Dam studied political science with a specialization in International Relations at the University of Amsterdam.[6]

Dam has lived in Afghanistan since 2006,[7] traveled the country without the military, made investments in contacts, and only reported on the country.[8][9][10]

From 2009 to 2014, Dam lived in the Afghan capital Kabul, where she worked as a correspondent for NRC Handelsblad and Wereldomroep.[11][12]

Her book Expeditie Uruzgan was released in 2009.[13]

Since 2010, Dam also writes for Vrij Nederland.[14]

Dam published the book In Search of the Enemy in 2019,[15][16]she reports on her investigation into Taliban leader Mohammed Omar.[17]

She has appeared in media such as the BBC,[18]CNN, The Guardian[19] and Daily Times[20][21]

She contributes to The Guardian and Vrij Nederland, a Dutch magazine for her knowledge of Afghanistan. She teaches about Afghanistan at Paris’s esteemed École de Sciences Politiques.[22]
