Richard Shakespeare ( C. 1487 - 1561 ) was a native of Snitterfield. He may have been the father of John Shakespeare and grandfather of William Shakespeare. Virtually nothing is known about him except that he was given land for his services to King Henry VII of England. He was a farmer from around 1530 till his death in 1561 and has been recorded in the Stradford town records for his fines.
