Prior to entering parliament Guy was a Ministerial advisor to former Liberal Premier Jeff Kennett and to the Assistant Federal Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp. He was also the Chief of Staff to Dr Denis Napthine during his period as Opposition Leader. Guy has also worked for the Victorian Farmers Federation and for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
After winning in November 2006, Matthew Guy was appointed the Shadow Planning Minister.
