In the living room, the man with the hat drops his lighter, and, this time, Larry makes to pick it up - but smashes an expensive lamp in the process. Mel flips, shouting and swearing at Larry, insulting his lateless and his "stupid soccer shoes". She is clearly unstable, and, as Gil hands them their coats, they leave. Outside, Cheryl, although mad, laughs with Larry about what's happened. Suddenly, Larry remembers that Gil's gym trainer has got his watch. He has to go back and do an awkward double-goodbye. Larry then gets his watch - and some better directions to the freeway.

"Porno Gil"

Porno Gil is the third episode in the first season of the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm. It originally aired on October 29 2000, and was directed by Robert B. Weide, based on a story idea by Larry David.

Plot Synopsis

Whilst at the golfing range, Larry refuses to pick up a fellow golfer's ball from the ground because he dislikes "his hat". Later, when describing the incident to Cheryl, Larry accidentally phones an old buddy, Gil Thelander - who used to be a porn star. Larry pretends he intended to call Gil for a chat and ends up getting invited to a party this coming Saturday. Unable to get out of it, Larry tells Cheryl that they'll still go for a romantic dinner (as they intended) and stop by the party afterwards for 30 minutes or so.

Later, at the hospital, Jeff has ended up in need of bypass surgery, and calls on Larry for some help in a little matter. Jeff explains to Larry that if something should happen to him during the surgery, he doesn't want his wife to discover his porn collection. They devise a plan that on Sunday, when the surgery is to take place, Larry can sneak into Jeff's house (while it's empty) and take the porn away - which is hidden in a secret compartment behind the linen closet - until Jeff returns home. Larry agrees, and leaves Jeff with the comment, "try not to die."

Saturday comes around and Larry and Cheryl are lost on the way to Gil's party. The directions he gave them are not clear enough, and with some useless help from an elderly lady (who Larry finds a way of arguing with), they decide they should just go home. However, as they go to do so, Larry stops a car driving towards them and flags it down. Ironically, the driver is the man with the hat from the golfing range - he too is going to Gil's party. Larry asks if can follow him to the party, to which the driver replies, "why don't you bend over and kiss my ass, and next time, pick up the fucking golf ball." Suddenly, Gil calls Larry, and they find their way to the party.
