Puerto Ricans Missing in Action in the Vietnam War

I gave the article a quick read just now, its looking simmilar to the current level of Puerto Ricans Missing in Action in the Korean War, the chances of it passing FLC will be better now that we have an idea of what is expected of these list-articles, I will be calling it a day in a few minutes (after I leave Golbez a message letting him know of the upates in the list) but I will give it a Template:Cite web run when I arrive home from college tommorow. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:46, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hope we could put up as good as collaboration to this project as you have, your work has been incredible and have been an inspiration for us. I know that the new generation will try their best, I know I will and Eddie and Marcos will certainly be great admins one day, I believe that serves as proof for the influence that all the inspiration you put when writting an article has, hey I got drawn to this project after reading Puerto Rican immigration to Hawaii, and I couldn't thank you enough for all the help you have provided to me. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:03, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed the columns now. I have placed the data within the XX syntax (replacing the XX). The dates should also use the 0000-00-00 (replacing the 0000 with the dates. The sortable table needs something to sort by alphabetically or numerically. The dates need to be in the ISO code format for it to work properly. The ranks are sorted using the standardised codes found at Template:US enlisted ranks. (E4, E5, O6, etc) Hope this helps. Woodym555 10:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, ever need any help, just ask!! I am sure i will see that article at FLC some time soon! Good luck and good health. Woodym555 00:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked editor still using other accounts

Per [2], I believe YoSoyGuapo is still using multiple accounts, and at appears canvassing with them. Was not sockpuppeting part of the agreement to being unbanned? And he's right back at what got him banned, it appears. The Evil Spartan 21:06, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tony, I didn't touch YoSoyGuapo until yesterday (I haven't made any edits on it except for my talk page). I am in the middle of asking opinions on articles. Which is why I asked for an RFC to help alleviate a situation (which i thought was alleviation) am i wrong?. I asked for editor opinions including "16:25, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:AntonioMartin‎ 16:25, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Pedro‎ 16:24, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Carlosguitar‎ 16:23, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Marine 69-71‎ 16:22, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Agüeybaná/Puerto Rico‎ (→Copyright status of Decisional analysis of complex systems) (top) 16:22, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Caribbean H.Q.‎ (→Images uploaded from flickr) 16:21, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Akhilleus‎ (→Mopping needed) 16:13, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Jpgordon‎ 16:13, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Halaqah‎ (→Image source problem with Image:500yearsamharic.jpg) 16:11, 10 September 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Malik Shabazz" To make it simple i'm going to state on my userpage that my IP and YoSoyGuapo are one and the same. After the Josh Gibson opinions are settled i'll continue using only YoSoyGuapo. I have to transfer the talk page as well.

Honestly I wanted editor opinion which is why I filed for an RFC (request for comment) was this the wrong procedure? [3] 64.131.205.111 23:58, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So it would be alright for me to put down Requesting your opinion on an article to the people that I had previously asked? So it won't be labeled canvasing? I didn't even know what canvasing was I just thought it was alright to ask people to give their opinion. Once you confirm I'll do that. [4] 64.131.205.111 06:44, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Friendy chat

You know, I just realized that it was you who awarded me the DYK Medal. That was a true surprise. In regard to your comments on the Hispanic Americans in World War II FAC, I have to admit that at first glance I was too blind to see exactly what you meant, but you where right. There were a lot of suspect references and it was too romanticed and so on . I'm not making excuses, but my health has limited my activities here and I guess I just couldn't think straight.

However, I have taken your concerns very seriously and revamped and made a complete overhual (re-wretten and copyedited) of the article. All of the referencing concerns have been taken care of as witnessed by users: Mattisse, AnonEMouse and SandyGeorgia all of which are experienced FAC editors and neutral.

I hope that you reconsider your oppose and even if you don't, it has been a pleasure interacting with the person who awarded me the DYK. Cheers! Tony the Marine 04:24, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, there is no problem. I was away for most of last week but saw that it was passed in the meantime. I haven't looked back at the article but you put a lot of work into it in good faith so you should take pride in that and enjoy the moment regardless of what me or any other opposers might have thought about it. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:29, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know...

Updated DYK query On 11 September, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Amri Hernandez-Pellerano, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

The nom passed, Tony I can't thank you enough for your support, all the help you have given me trought this time has certainly been a critical part of my development as a user, gracias por todo hermano. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Idea

That's a great idea, we can start this on a sub page on the project, so we can work it without any vandalism and discuss what its needed as it progresses, I know Eddie will probably be interested and if we can get Marcos' help raising the page to FA should be easier, I think we should also consolidate a few pages with interesting material about some non-historical events concerning the movement such as Hostosian National Congress and Latin American and Caribbean Congress in Solidarity with Puerto Rico’s Independence, most of these pages are stub or start class and are rarely worked with, I think that on a FA caliber page they will get more attention towards them. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Today's Fatured Article

Tony the limit of five requests is full, I have the nom ready so I will add it as soon as you move Puerto Ricans in WWII to a later date. - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:55, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination for Betances is in place, the original nomination of Puerto Ricans in World War II is also there but I hide it using the format. - Caribbean~H.Q. 17:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm mighty confused here, sorry for the messup I have never done this, the nom is still there though just hidden. - Caribbean~H.Q. 17:32, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:06, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Villahermosa Army article?

Hi, Tony. I got a note on my talk page asking me to review some sources for Hispanic Americans in World War II. In doing that, I found this: [5], which is an article by Colonel Villahermosa specifically on the participation of Hispanics in WWII and other wars. It seems like an absolutely wonderful source, but I don't see it anywhere in the HAiWWII references section. We don't have an article on Army, but it seems to be an official army publication, which would make it a fine reliable source. Have you seen this already already? --AnonEMouse (squeak) 18:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On a side note, I checked a few of the disputed references, and they seem OK, but I found a couple better ones for the Bataan Death March. See the whole chat at User talk:AnonEMouse#Hispanic Americans in World War II. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 19:06, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Tony

Golbez is supporting Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Puerto Ricans Missing in Action in the Korean War, he still has a few questions that you could probably anwser better than me, but the chances of this passing are quite high now, another one of your creations will get featured. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:14, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Asignacion

Doing... :-) Gracias por decírmelo. --Agüeybaná 02:25, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest we move it to List of Caciques, as that is what the article lists, anyway. It is impossible to list all tainos that existed in history. What do you think? --Agüeybaná 02:45, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm planning on creating a map similar to this one to be used in the article. What do you think? --Agüeybaná 23:43, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm working on the sources. BTW, "Simple" is the abbreviation for the Simple English Wikipedia. --Agüeybaná 01:09, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikimedia Commons. --Agüeybaná 01:32, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I still prefer List of caciques, as all of the people in the list (with the exception of only one) are caciques. --Agüeybaná 20:46, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go ahead. --Agüeybaná 02:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats

Well done on the promotion of The Korean War MIA list. The change in the article was immense!!! Congrats. Woodym555 15:44, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on MOH images

Tony, I agree that they should not be removed. Please take a look at the Talk:Medal of Honor page. I noticed late in the game that there was a discussion about MOH images in the infoboxes. It does not seem that consensus was reached. I ask you to put a message on the user talk page expressing your feelings about it and on the particular talk pages of the articles from which they've been removed. I think the editor is quite amenable to discussing issues.

BTW, I'm still on a very limited editing schedule due to many commitments in RL. — ERcheck (talk) 00:25, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An editor to the MOH talk page pointed out that there was a discussion earlier in the month on the WPMILHIST talk pages - here. I don't agree with the comments of a few. Considering that I have contributed so many of the biographies, I wish I'd been invited to weigh in. — ERcheck (talk) 01:18, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MOH pics

No problem, thanks for kind words. I didn't realize that the conversation was still ongoing. I also added the pics of the MOL to the articles without a pic in the infobox and changed a few that had the wrong pic (army vice navy for instance).--Kumioko 01:10, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 • Just to repeat my comments on the talk page of the MOH, This has been debated on the WT:MILHIST page at the same time (started by the same editor). The agreement from the discussion shown here was to put in this hidden comment: . This is not to say that articles have to omit the medal from elsewhere: that it the editor's discretion. The infobox should contain a picture of a recipient, in lieu of such an image being available then i see no reason why the MOH (Or any other similarly prestigious) award should not go in its place. Woodym555 01:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not saying no to that. I just don't think that it should be mandatory. I don't think that you should have a picture of them in the infobox. Then you start having presidential seals, royal crowns etc. The infobox is meant to describe the person, not the medal. The article on the other hand should, by all means, contain a picture of the medal. I have no qualms with that. It should be upto the editor of that page whether to include the image or not. Most recipients have a distinct shortage of images available for use and a MOH or VC pic is a welcome addition. Woodym555 18:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Puerto Ricans MIA in Vietnam

This is a tricky one. Let me startoff by saying that i do not think that there is anything holding it back from becoming a piece of featured content. Although it is an almost exact copy of the structure of the "FL PR MIA in the Korean War," it is very short. Not very many people were MIA it would seem. Whilst this is a great thing, it does provide a dilemna. I would say it is a list, but many reviewers would say it is too short. I don't think it could be an FA because it doe not have enough unique content IMO. I would ask User:Raul654 whether he thinks it could make FA. You could also open a discussion on WT:FLC about length of lists and comprehensiveness. I am sorry if this does not provide a concrete answer, just more questions!! Congrats again on the list. Woodym555 01:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Puerto Ricans Missing in Action in the Korean War

Hi, I've made a very minor suggestion about Puerto Ricans Missing in Action in the Korean War on the talk page - would have commented WP:FLC but was a bit late for that! It's just a small point (whether "Chinese Communist Army" would be better as "Chinese People's Volunteer Army") but it's not something I'm an expert on so I wasn't bold enough to change it myself. Respect for getting the featured list status and all your contributions here! Purgatorio 13:15, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article references

Just doing a quickie look, most of the sources look very good - U.S. government etc. There are a few questionable ones, like:

I am not clear what that source is.
On this one I get a server error and then some text about Jewish population worldwide - plus it looks like it is a forum and forums are not good sources.
Not a good source.

It will be good if other people enter into the discussion. I am not clear if the person complaining understands clearly what Original research is. Bottom line, I think some of your sources are not the best (the same problem as in the Hispanics in World War II article) but surely the person questioning is not claiming that you created the idea that there were Hispanic Admirals in the United States Navy? If it gets to be a problem, I will enter into this more. But this is just one person questioning. Lets find out what specifically his complaints are. He cannot just claim the whole article is OR. He would need to show that there were not Hispanic Admirals in the United States Navy. What counter references does he have? --Mattisse 00:56, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the thumbs-up. I hesitated about including Phoenix since he only lived briefly here and his parents are not of Puerto Rican descent (something along the line of the discussion we had in the Puerto Rico Project some time ago, hehehe). Anyway, I only added a note to the table. I don't know what's usual in these cases and if it's really necessary. If you can, check it out and let me know. Tribute to "the Marine"

I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Wikipedia's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people.

On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that we would not be writing for Wikipedia anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work.

Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. Que Dios te bendiga, Tony, y que tu recompensa sea grande en el Reino de los Cielos.

re:Chat

Well, I think the guy is wrong. I went and voted Keep and tried to explain my thinking. You are not making up the idea that there are Hispanic admirals in the United States Navy. I don't think you have to worry. I do not believe others will agree with him.--Mattisse 00:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should stop arguing with the guy and just let his comments sit there. All refuting does at this point is drag it out. No one else has supported him so far. Don't give him the pleasure of being given a chance to respond to you once again and repeat his view. This is my opinion but I have found this method has worked in the past for me. If no one else joins him, there is nothing more to say. If others do, then maybe a productive exchange can result. Regards, --Mattisse 15:26, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't let it get to you. (I know it is hard.) If those problems exist with the article, then they can be fixed. Besides, GA's are not necessarily interesting articles or articles people read the most. I personally find most FA's boring, for example. --Mattisse 23:13, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ray Mercer - Marine?

Tony, See my comments on the talk page for the List of U.S. Marines. I think better sources need to be found to show that Mercer was really in the Marine Corps. — ERcheck (talk) 00:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'd love it if you son could find a reliable source. I hope he'll add the info to Mercer's article. Do you know when and where he served? Did Marine Corps service make a difference in his boxing? — ERcheck (talk) 01:49, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Felicita and Gonzalo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Felicita and Gonzalo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:07, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
