Gosei Sentai Dairanger

The Dairangers are a group of fictional characters who are the protagonists of the Super Sentai series, Gosei Sentai Dairanger. They are practitioners of a form of martial arts that originated in China 8,000 years ago. They use chi powers to fight the Gorma tribe. After their last battle the Dairangers separated and the last scene shows them many years in the future, where their grandchildren followed their legacy and fight against the last remains of the Gorma tribe.

Kou of the Howling New Star ("吼新星"コウ, "Hōshinsei" Kō) / KibaRanger (キバレンジャー, Kiba Renjā, FangRanger): A 9-year old who pulled out Yufang's Byakkoshinken. A somewhat perverted boy, he often grabs Lin's breasts and looks up her skirt at times, and wishes to marry her. New to fighting, he is not particularly strong. The KibaChanger allows him to assume an adult-form as KibaRanger. He originally kept his identity as KibaRanger a secret, and the Byakkoshinken often spoke instead of Kou (who, of course, still sounded like a child in his Ranger form), but after the other Dairangers learned of his identity, he began to speak on his own and joined the team. Kou eventually learns he and Akomaru are twin brothers and are the sons of Shadam and a woman from the Dai Tribe. Because of this, Shadam tried to recruit Kou to the Gorma when the boy was old enough to be converted (according to Christian calendars, Kou and Akomaru's birthday falls on Christmas Eve), but his mother's baptism purified Kou of his Gorma linage. His Mythical Chi Beast is Won Tiger. Specializes in Sound-based attacks.

  • Dai Weapon: Byakkoshinken (白虎真剣, Byakkoshinken, White-Tiger True-Sword), An enchanted talking saber Yufang placed within a stone until the one chosen to wield it arrives. That day occurred when Kou removed the weapon from its resting place. The sword offered to help Kou as KibaRanger, voice-overing for him upon his debut as KibaRanger and co-piloting Won Tiger. He could also control Kou's body while fighting as KibaRanger.

Arsenal

The transformation call is "Chi-Power Tenshin!,[1] Aura Changer" (気力転身! オーラチェンジャー, Kiryoku Tenshin Ōra Chenjā). The left piece can also be used as a communication device.
  • Kiba Changer (キバチェンジャー, Kiba Chenjā, Fang Changer): Kou's own transformation device. It has a golden key that is inserted into a brace similar to the Aura Changer's left piece. The transformation call is "Chi-Power Heavenform! Kiba Changer" (気力転身! キバチェンジャー, Kiryoku Tenshin Kiba Chenjā).
  • Dai Buster (ダイバスター, Dai Basutā): A laser gun that is formed when the two sidearms are combined. It can be used to fire a laser rope so that the Dairangers can board their Mythical Chi Beasts.

The first five, which Lin found in China, are used as ammunition in the Super Chi Power Bazooka. The two other Lai-Lai Jewels belong to Kou & Kameo (which is more like a crystal). To appease Daijinryuu's wrath, the Lai-Lai Jewels leave the Dairangers. Only 50 years later, the five primary jewels resurfaced on the new Dairangers' hands.
  • Chi-Power Bomber (気力ボンバー, Kiryoku Bonbā): The first finishing technique used by the Dairangers. They gather their Chi power and fire it towards the enemy.

Mythical Chi Beasts

The Mythical Chi Beasts (気伝獣, Kidenjū) are ancient god-like animals that could be controlled by those of the Dai Tribe. "Mythical Summoning! (name)!" (気伝招来!(気伝獣の名前)!, Kiden Shōrai! (Kidenjū no Namae)!) is used to call on the Mythical Chi Beasts while holding the respective Lailai Jewels and Star Cutter (Byakkoshinken in KibaRanger's case) to summon them.

  • Heavy Armor Chi Palace (重甲気殿, Jūkō Kiden): The most powerful Dairanger weapon of all, it is the combination of all the Mythical Chi Beasts by the command "Seven-Star Fusion" (七星合体, Shichisei Gattai). It kills Gorma monsters with its Great Death Crush (大圧殺, Dai Assatsu) attack, where Ryuuseioh spins his staff like a propeller to raise the Heavy Armor Chi Palace into the air, which is then brought down on the enemy.
    • Dairen'oh (大連王, Dairen'ō, Great Union King): Combination of Ryuuseioh and the Heavenly Chi Palace by the command of "Five-Star Fusion" (五星合体, Gosei Gattai). It is armed with the Dai Javelin (ダイジャベリン, Dai Jaberin), and the Daioh Sword (大王剣, Daiōken), with which it performs its finisher, the Gailing Wind Rage Waves (疾風怒濤, Shippū Dotō, Sturm und Drang) attack. Another attack is the Chi Kung Shot (気功弾, Kikōdan). Dairen'oh's power helped to power up GaoKing in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai. First appears in episode 8.
      • Mythical Chi Beast Ryuuseioh (気伝獣龍星王, Kidenjū Ryūseiō, Dragon Star King): Transforms into Mythical Chi Warrior Ryuuseioh (気伝武人龍星王, Kiden Bujin Ryūseiō) by the command "Warrior Change" (武人変化, Bujin Henge). Can combine with the Heavenly Chi Palace to form Dairen'oh. Controls Fire and Lightning. He can breath streams of fire from his mouth called Big Blaze (大火炎, Dai Kaen). From there, it can use the Flying Dragon Rod (飛龍棍, Hiryū Kon) to perform the Windmill Kick, Super Windmill, and then the Great Windmill Slice (大風車斬り, Dai Fūsha Kiri) attack. At first, Kaku had to use his chi energy to control Ryuuseioh, until Lin was transported to China to find the five Heavenly Treasure Lai-Lai Jewels and revived the other four Mythical Chi Beasts. Helped out in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai. It first appeared in episode 1. Elements of Sun Wukong (wields a staff, has a golden headband) were influences on Ryuuseioh's design.
      • Heavenly Chi Palace (天空気殿, Tenkū Kiden): Combination of four of the Mythical Chi Beasts, through the "Four-Star Fusion!" (四星合体, Shisei Gattai). Ryuuseioh in Warrior mode can ride on it, and is capable of high-speed flight. Aside from riding on it, Ryuuseioh can fly off it through the air and perform the Heavenly Great Windmill (天空大風車, Tenkū Dai Fūsha) attack. Goes on top of Heavy Armor Chi Palace.
        • Mythical Chi Beast Star-Shishi (気伝獣星獅子, Kidenjū Sei Shishi, Star-Lion): This lion can create mists to conceal itself and can create illusions. Its attack, Big Mirage (大蜃気楼, Dai Shinkirō). • Mythical Chi Beast Star-Tenma (気伝獣星天馬, Kidenjū Sei Tenma, Star-Pegasus): This Pegasus can throw boulders at its enemies and control gravity. Its attack, Big Gravity (大重力, Dai Jūryoku). Forms Heavenly Chi Palace's right side, right leg armor for Dairen'oh, and Kibadaioh's right leg.
        • Mythical Chi Beast Star-Kirin (気伝獣星麒麟, Kidenjū Sei Kirin, Star-Qilin): This Qilin can shoot fireballs out of its mouth, and control time. Its attack, Big Time (大時間, Dai Jikan). Forms Heavenly Chi Palace's left side, left leg armor for Dairen'oh, and Kibadaioh's left leg.
        • Mythical Chi Beast Star-Houou (気伝獣星鳳凰, Kidenjū Sei Hōō, Star-Phoenix): This Fenghuang can fire laser blasts and generate whirlwinds. Its attack, Big Whirlwind (大旋風, Dai Senpū). Forms the rear of Heavenly Chi Palace, a belt for Dairen'oh and the tip of the DaiJavelin, and Kibadaioh's weapon.
    • Mythical Chi Beast Won Tiger (気伝獣ウォンタイガー, Kidenjū Won Taigā): Transforms into Mythical Chi Warrior Won Tiger (気伝武人ウォンタイガー, Kiden Bujin Won Taigā). It is armed with 7 Legendary Chi Treasure Pearls in its cockpit which correlate to both the seven days of the Japanese week, as well as to the Japanese elements; Moon (equivalent for Monday), Fire (Tuesday), Water (Wednesday), Wood (Thursday), Metal (Friday), Earth (Saturday), and Sun (Sunday). Won Tiger was revived by the combined powers of Kaku along with the five Dairangers for Kibaranger. It is also armed with the Golden Sword (黄金剣, Ōgonken) and mimics Kibaranger's attacks to fight off Gorma monsters. Won Tiger can combine with the Heavenly Chi Palace to form KibaDaioh (牙大王, KibaDaiō, Fang Great King) from the command of "New Star Fusion!" (新星合体!, Shinsei Gattai!). Some of its attacks include Great Chi Power Punch (大気力パンチ, Dai Kiryoku Panchi) and the Smash to Atoms (木端微塵, Koppamijin) attack, which is performed by shooting Star Houou at the enemy like a missile. Forms the head, arms, and body of Kibadaioh. Goes inside Heavy Armor Chi Palace.
    • Super Mythical Chi Beast Daimugen (超気伝獣ダイムゲン, Chō Kidenjū Daimugen, Great Infinity): A giant tortoise who turned into Kameo to escape the fighting between the Dai & Gorma tribes. However, he resumed his true form in present time his new friend Kazu was in danger from the Gorma Four Deva Kings. Since then, Daimugen appears only when the Dairanger need his aid, changing into Super Mythical Chi Warrior Daimugen (超気伝武人ダイムゲン, Chō Kiden Bujin Daimugen) to re-energize Ryuuseioh. Eventually, Daimugen's fear of fighting was the result of his 1st encounter with Daijinryuu long ago. But he managed to overcome his phoiba to protect Ryuuseioh from Daijinryuu.

Daijinryuu

Daijinryuu

Daijinryuu (大神龍, Daijinryū, Great God Dragon): An entity who preserves the natural balance of the world. He appears whenever battles like the ones between the Dairangers and the Gorma have gone too far. Daijinryuu has no contempt for either side, but has no tolerance for whoever threaten to disrupt the natural order of things. Daijinryuu normally arrived to the world in Emperor Dragon Mode (昇竜モード, Shōryū Mōdo), only to transform into the bipedal Dragon God Mode (竜神モード, Ryūjin Mōdo), with its feet as big as Daimugen's shell. The only times he has appeared is when the Dairangers dealt with Great Famous Pachinko Player and Ikazuchi. When the Dairangers dealt with Ikazuchi, Daijinryuu seemingly put many civilians in Tokyo under a spell, which made them bow to Daijinryuu and then fall off buildings, before Jiaxu counter-acted the spell. Daijinryuu make its final appearance to destroy the Gorma Palace, seeing that Shadam and Gorma were the cause of all the trouble. To calm it down, the Lailai Jewels and the Great Earth Shaking Jewel scattered to the four winds on their own will.

  1. ^ "Tenshin (転身, Tenshin)" when literally translated means "Heaven Transform." This is actually a portmanteau of the Japanese words "ten ()" which means "heaven" and "henshin (変身)" which means "transform". In English, this roughly translates into "Heavenform", a portmanteau of "heaven" and "transform."
