Pending actions

Clerks and informal helpers, please coordinate your actions through this section, so that we don't have multiple clerks working on the same cases at the same time. An IRC channel, #wikipedia-en-arbcom-clerks and a mailing list are also available, although the mailing list is low traffic and has a public archive.

To be opened

Cases may be opened 24 hours after the fourth net vote to accept has been made.
  • (snipped discussion, leaving these two comments for "review". Daniel 07:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)) Opened. I think with only a minor (quickly pointed out and fixed) mistake. I still haven't figured out where exactly I should be putting the {{ACA}} template, though. I used to know why the Arbs needed clerks. Now I Know why the needed 'em.  :-) — Coren (talk) 22:38, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nevermind. The proposed decision talk page. — Coren (talk) 23:37, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Daniel, I checked Ghode_2, it looks fine. Good work. Thatcher 17:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks — probably a result of having WP:AC/C/P on my watchlist for over seven months now :) Daniel 06:48, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I said this below but thanks again to everyone who is helping out. Newyorkbrad (talk) 21:16, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motions and temporary injunctions

Motions and temporary injunctions are made by arbitrators on /Proposed decision, and have the same majority for passage as the case itself.

To be closed

Cases may be closed after after the fourth net vote to close, but generally wait at least 24 hours after the first motion to close. In cases where the arbitrators have disagreed and not all the findings or remedies have passed, wait at least 24 hours after the final close vote is cast to give other arbitrators a chance to raise objections.

Reassignment/breaks

Generally, the clerk who opens a case should follow the progress of the case and be available to answer questions from the parties. If for any reason you need someone to take over one or more of your current cases (too busy, wikibreak, etc.), post a request here.

Active/Inactive Arbitrators

General list

This list will be used to set the number of active Arbitrators and the case majority on cases as they open. As of January 1, 2008, there are 12 active Arbitrators, so the majority is 7 for new cases.

  • FloNight
  • FT2
  • Jdforrester
  • Jpgordon
  • Kirill Lokshin
  • Matthew Brown (Morven)
  • Newyorkbrad
  • Sam Blacketer
  • Thebainer
  • UninvitedCompany

Away/inactive:

  • Charles Matthews
  • Paul August (away until January 4)

Arbitrator announcements

Arbitrators, please note if you wish to declare yourself active or away/inactive, either generally or for specific cases. The clerks will update the relevant cases as needed.
  • Newyorkbrad - to active on IRC, John Buscema, and Dbachmann. Leave inactive (at least for now) on Matthew Hoffman. Newyorkbrad (talk) 05:16, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Deskana - to active on IRC only. --Deskana (talk) 12:43, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've went ahead and moved NYB and Deskana to Active on the cases they've requested, which means they're no longer listed as "New arbitrators". This might make casual readers bypass the fact that they're new, which I originally hesitated at; however, the newbie Arbitrators have as much leeway as the ones that have been around a little longer, surely :) in addition, it appears the "New arbitrators" section of {{ACA}} is indicating that the listed Arbitrators are inactive, simply because they haven't "opted in"... Which would make listing Brad and Deskana there on their requested cases a little inaccurate. Anthøny 15:42, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • This was the correct step to take. Theoretically we are 8 hours premature, but meh. Please update the number of arbitrators and (if needed) the required majority on the proposed decision pages as well. Thanks, Newyorkbrad (talk) 16:28, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Done, all the tallies have been updated. Anthøny (talk) 19:51, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thebainer - to recused on IRC (for clarity's sake). To active on John Buscema and Dbachmann. Leave inactive on Matthew Hoffman. Cheers! --bainer (talk) 01:48, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sam Blacketer - I'll leave John Buscema and Dbachmann to the members of the previous mandate, but go active on IRC. Thanks for your help. Sam Blacketer (talk) 15:03, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
done, thanks. Thatcher 15:20, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

General discussion

Willing to help out

I'm willing to help out with clerking. I've been doing a little work already around requests for arbitraton.--Phoenix-wiki talk · contribs 21:28, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be willing to help out in any way needed, too. I've been monitoring the main RFAR page for a bit, and giving informal housekeeping-type help there of the kind the clerks welcome. I'll just keep doing that if that's all that's needed now, but I thought I'd list myself as willing to do more if there's need. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 01:05, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
<aol>Me too!</aol> I expect that with NYB's "ascension" and the other appointments there will be a rush of work, and I'm around to give a hand if needed. — Coren (talk) 05:26, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks everybody for volunteering to help out! It comes at a great time because a lot of our current clerks are busy with other things or on wikibreak. Please make sure you all read WP:AC/C/P and use this noticeboard to coordinate if need be. Thanks again! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 07:15, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had previously offered to help.[1] Unfortunately, I would have to recuse from all the cases where I am involved, but that's no more than 50% of them. Jehochman Talk 02:38, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am also interested in clerking. I have already read WP:AC/C/P. Nishkid64 (talk) 02:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, good, well, the stuff we basically do is fix the level of headings, rename cases to more suitable names and fix up the formatting of requests that...er...haven't been formatted properly, though leave it to the clerks to open and close cases ;-)--Phoenix-wiki 16:02, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I appologise for this in advance because I really don't want to tread on anyones toes but I'd also like to help out. I've been active in arbitration for some time and fully understand the process - I'd be happy to help out wherever needed. Ryan Postlethwaite 01:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You could help me catalog all the past editing restrictions. See Wikipedia:Editing restrictions. You can look at completed arbitration requests from August 2007 and work backwards from there. Jehochman Talk 02:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Announcement

A couple of weeks ago (before any of the current helper notices) Coren and Jayvdb contacted FT2 about clerking. Based on temporal priority, I am going to offer to list Coren and Jayvdb as clerk trainees at WP:AC/C. I'm also listing Daniel (talk) who has been hanging around and helping here and there. Thanks to the rest of you for your offers of assistance; general help like formatting and other cleanup is always appreciated and you don't need to be a clerk or trainee or anything else to do that. The next time we need new clerks or trainees, we will look first at whomever has been hanging around making themselves useful. Thanks again. Thatcher 04:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mentors Can a full-time clerk pick up either Coren or Jayvdb as mentors? It's not meant to be an exclusive role, just a first point of contact for questions, etc. Thatcher 04:04, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to take either one, if they can cope with my GMT-orientated timing. David Mestel(Talk) 16:28, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I usually edit late EST; which means the middle of the night on your side of the pond— but I'm unable to stay away from Wikipedia for significant lengths of time, so I can be found mulling about irregularly most of the day. :-) — Coren (talk) 18:47, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to thank the new trainees and everyone else who offered to help out for your interest and assistance. I also appreciate Thatcher's return to active clerking and his coordinating with the new trainees. Newyorkbrad (talk) 15:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
