I think this article has it's Sasakawa's confused. This was Ryoichi Sasakawa, a Japanese businessman (1899-1995.) I have a book called "1,000 Years, 1,000 People", on page 85, also refers to the person who assisted Norman Borlaug as being Ryoichi Sasakawa. Some quick web searches back this up as well.
I think this article has it's Sasakawa's confused. This was Ryoichi Sasakawa, a Japanese businessman (1899-1995.) I have a book called "1,000 Years, 1,000 People", on page 85, also refers to the person who assisted Norman Borlaug as being Ryoichi Sasakawa. Some quick web searches back this up as well. In fact, a notable quote made from Sasakawa to Borlaug alludes to the fact that Sasakawa was 15 years older than Borlaug. So this can only be Ryoichi Sasakawa. Yohei Sasakawa (born January 8, 1939) is chairman of The Nippon Foundation, the World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination, and Japan's Ambassador for the Human Rights of People Affected by Leprosy. As chairman of The Nippon Foundation, Japan's largest charitable foundation, he is seen as a pioneer in guiding public-interest activities by the private sector in today's Japan. Sasakawa received his degree from Meiji University’s School of Political Science and Economics.
