Hi,

I changed the section title since the FBI has definitely said he's under investigation as part of that act, and I added researched ref for the Popov claim as well.

Thanks,

Thanks, that's probably better, given the WP:BLP issues. (After all, it doesn't seem like its clear which crime they'll charge him with yet.) And thanks for cleaning up the references too :) Best, --Bfigura (talk) 04:05, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:MOSNUM mediation

Bfigura, hello again. Are you and administrator yet? I think we’re going to need one. Debate and a vote is ongoing on Talk:MOSNUM regarding a proposal that would deprecate the use of computer terms like “kibibyte” (symbol “KiB”), “mebibyte” (symbol “MiB”), and kibibit (symbol “Kib”). It would no longer be permissible to use terminology like a “a SODIMM card with a capacity of two gibibytes (2 GiB) first became available…” and instead, the terminology currently used by manufacturers of computer equipment and general-circulation computer magazines (“two gigabytes, or 2 GB”) would be used. Much vitriolic discussion has transpired and voting is ongoing here. It appears the final tally will be 2:1 (maybe better) in favor of the new proposal. As this is far from unanimous, I believe we may need a group chair to “call it a game” when the time comes. I’m not sure we need one just yet—I’ve so far managed to shepherd the proposal with a minimum of chaos in the proceedings—but when the need develops, would you be interested? Can you serve in such a capacity if you are not yet an admin? Can you serve in such a capacity if you are an admin? If you can not serve, can you propose someone you think would be suitable? Greg L (my talk) 00:45, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Greg. Nope, no mop for me. I've been a bit busy with RL, so I've been on a wiki-hiatus of sorts lately. As far as the proposal, I'm busy with work until the weekend, so I probably won't have time to look at it until then (apologies). Let me get back to you soon though. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 15:58, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So, to finally reply: I tend to agree with you, in that I think there's probably not much use for deprecated terminology. However, I don't think I'm really up for serving as a MOS coordinator on the topic. Due to work, my on-wiki activity is kind of sporadic at the moment, so I'd hate to be in a position where people are waiting on a reply from me for something. (And for the same reason, I'm not really sure of who a good person would be off the top of my head.) If I think of (or come across) someone, I'll let you know though. Cheers, --Bfigura (talk) 00:25, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hey hold on dont delete my kma page! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hineyistheman (talkcontribs) 01:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. As a quick note: I didn't delete the page, that was done by an unrelated administrator. However, the page appears to be a substantial recreation of a previously deleted page (see Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kappa_Mu_Alpha, and is also subject to speedy deletion, as the article doesn't really indicate why the subject is notable. (For a definition of notability as it pertains to organizations, see here). If you think you can fix the article to meet the standard, please feel free to place the {{hangon}} tag on the article page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a note on my talk page. Antoshi

The user has on more than one occasion added information that was not cited even after being asked to find sources for his information, myself and others have asked him to find sources however he has refused to and has been nothing but rude to me. He deleted warnings from his talk page that i have placed there due to his continual additions of uncited information after repeated rollbacks and requests to cite his information. Although he insists that the information he has added was from his own research which can not be cited. Comments sure, remove them.. however i have seen warnings reverted on talk pages before. Warnings are there for not only the user to look at, but for admins and other users to see as well. Thank you for your concern and i hope this has made the situation more clear for you. AnnaJGrant (talk) 23:09, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is precisely what I'm talking about. "Thank you for your concern and i hope this has made the situation more clear for you." If that's not condescending, then I don't know what is. What's more is that, despite Anna's clear twisting of facts, I only reverted my changes back one time. I then decided not to continue reverting and took it up on Anna's talk page. You yourself have stated that good faith edits do not warrant warnings, and I know for a fact that I have never been told before that I cannot delete content off my own user talk page. The content I have now I simply chose not to remove because there was nothing wrong with it, but Anna seems to be pressing the issue further when I simply wish to delete her comments off my talk page and move on. If I need to, I will request for Admin intervention, because it's my belief that Anna is simply policing Wikipedia. --Antoshi~! T | C 23:16, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, clearly there's some history here. But for the moment, may I suggest that there are no angry mastadons? I'll have a more thorough reply in a second or two. --Bfigura (talk) 23:20, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now, with regard to citations and such: our verifiability policy does state that challenged (or info likely to be challenged) information lacking citations can be removed. Our policy on original research states that Wikipedia isn't the place to publish information you have obtained/researched/calculated yourself. These two are pretty clear cut. (However, unless information seems to be false, reasonable people can disagree as to whether or not it's worth challenging/removing). Best, --Bfigura (talk) 23:25, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bfigura, the content on the Wrestlemania 24 article is not being disputed, I've already given up on that. What is being disputed (and revert warred) is the "warnings" AnnaJGrant left on my user talk page which I simply do not want there. And as such, every time I go to delete it, she reverts it back and escalates the warning, claiming that I will be blocked from Wikipedia if I do not cease. That is that matter at hand here. I want to delete her comments and warnings for my faith edits and move on, whereas she wishes to keep it on my talk page like it was some kind of permanent record. I'd also like to take the time to appreciate your help and support, as well as the link to the "Angry mastadons" article which made me chuckle. --Antoshi~! T | C 23:33, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c) Glad you like the essay -- it's one of my favorites. Regarding the templating and removal thereof, it's something of an open question (see Wikipedia:Centralized_discussion/Removing_warnings). However, as this isn't a case of a blatant vandal, there shouldn't be an issue with the removal. (Some people think it's rude to template regulars, so I think removing this it is ok, so long as there's an effort made to try and figure out what issue caused the warning in the first place). Just my 2 cents though. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 23:43, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His edits were in good faith, yes. However when they were reverted and he was asked to provide a reference to verify the edit he did not, so it was removed again. I placed a notice on his talk page to address the situation, and i received a hostile response. I admit i should not have reverted the notice on his talk page and should have just let it drop there, but i was indeed a little off'd due to the rude comments left on my talk page.

His newest comment on my talk page however, is even more rude, and threatening. I am big enough of a person to admit when i am wrong, and i have. I was wrong to keep pushing after he left such a rude comment on my talk page.

I consider this matter dropped, not because of his threats to go to admin, but because i really dont need this stress with a test coming up on friday.

Cheers, AnnaJGrant (talk) 23:38, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anna. I think I agree with everything you said. You did make a mistake (but kudos for owning up), and so did Antoshi by responding harshly. Everyone's human, so let's move on and go build an encyclopedia (or study, as the case may be). (Well, that or go check and see what amusing pranks have been pulled today). Some things aren't worth getting worked up over. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 23:47, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see nothing wrong with what I said. In fact, I re-worded my original reply to her because it would have been more harsh, but I tried to stay cool. It's clear her willingness to stop and the removal of all her notes were because of my Admin intervention comment, and it surely would have tarnished her request for Administrator. Anna should not confuse sternness with threatening, as I was firm in my decision to get Admin intervention. I still believe that Anna is quite full of herself, from my short experience with her. It seems she is willing to talk down to any and all users in the belief that she is right, despite only being a user for a month. Policing user pages, and when push comes to shove, twisting the facts so that it looks like other editors are the bad guy. This whole situation has been ridiculous, and something that I did not deserve as I did nothing wrong to begin with. --Antoshi~! T | C 23:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess my point is that our policy is to be civil, even if you think the other person is wrong. While I understand that you were upset, phrases like "ooze arrogance" are kinda why WP:MASTADONS exists. (As an aside, I've got to wonder where arrogance would ooze from? On second thought, no, I don't really want to wonder that). But anyway... I agree that you didn't deserve the templates, but I think this is one of those cases where its worth being more polite than you feel. Just my $0.02. my page going to be deleted.

Hi,

i recently aded a page to the Wikipedia about Whitby Business Directory

This is a great service for whitby people and many onther articles link to this page.

We will happily link to your website if our article may remain —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aqwatech (talkcontribs) 05:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. There are two problems here. First, the article appears to be a blatant copyright violation (please see this page for information on how copyrights you own may be incorporated into Wikipedia). Second, the article appears to be written solely to promote a company, and Wikipedia is not for advertising. More information may be found at our Businesses FAQ. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 05:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Make that three problems. From your username, it would appear that you are promoting a site with which you are involved. This tends to create a conflict of interest, which is generally frowned upon, as it compromised Wikipedia's policy on having a neutral point of view. Please refrain from editing articles on subjects with which you have some involvement. Thank you. --Bfigura (talk) 05:36, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help

There is a certain individual claiming to be somebody on Wikipedia. Perhaps a king? Anyways, I am seeing he has screwed up my page colors and edited a contribution. How old is this person? Seven? He is Jprw on here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jprw

I really don't undestand this kind of behoavior on this site. How can one tolerate this? I have been using my pc for over 10 years and have never seen anything like this.

Electric Japan (talk) 11:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It'd be a bit easier to help if I knew which instance you had an issue with. Do you have a specific link? Best, --Bfigura (talk) 04:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the character has stopped being a problem. I fixed his mess he had done to me.

I will let you know if it continues. Thanks Electric Japan (talk) 10:29, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Self-promotion

This back and forth seems a bit much. I put in a report at AIV, but I'm not sure they'll take it, given that it's in userspace (and not typical blatant vandalism). Any ideas? --Bfigura (talk) 04:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a G11, and has been deleted. No action to take unless she keeps making the page again. BoL (Talk) 04:11, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, just saw the deletion. So far it's only been recreated as listing her name. Hopefully that'll be it. --Bfigura (talk) 04:14, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that seems to be the beginning stages of another "resume"... BoL (Talk) 04:15, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. And it's back. G11 again, or...? --Bfigura (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
G11/G4 and salted. Now let's see whether she goes on her talk page! BoL (Talk) 04:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
With any luck, it'll just stay blanked. (Having your user page salted and your talk page protected would be a sad state of affairs). --Bfigura (talk) 04:29, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
She's blocked, right? BoL (Talk) 04:30, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I see from the logs. She just blanked the last message I left. As long as it stops there, I don't see a problem... except that she just started blanking wikiprojects. Hmmm, know someone with a hammer? --Bfigura (talk) 04:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On IRC I do :). BoL (Talk) 04:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

←Oh, IRC. Where would we be without your expediency? :) --Bfigura (talk) 04:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh. Anyway, level 2 warning, if it persists, go to AIV, and now she's screaming at an admin. Later. BoL (Talk) 04:42, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick revert there. :-) I'll watch her for the next couple minutes or so. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. This is all so stereotypical that if it wasn't for her first edit, I'd think I was being trolled. Cheers, --Bfigura (talk) 04:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the prompt rollback (just as I noticed it, you'd gotten rid of it!). <sigh> Goes with new page patrol, I guess. Cheers. Accounting4Taste:talk 04:55, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'd been playing whackamole (see above), and it popped up on the watchlist :) Cheers, --Bfigura (talk) 04:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL I USED to think new page patrol was like whack-a-mole. Now I describe it as being more like standing in the path of a firehose blasting out sewage and trying to divert individual lumps to one side while keeping an eye open for the occasional glint of a diamond. <sigh> I think that's a little too cynical -- I'll go to bed. Thanks again -- see you round the firehose!! LOL Accounting4Taste:talk 05:05, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
*grin* That's quite the analogy. Night. --Bfigura (talk) 05:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OVerus ~ ty for your comments

Thank you for answering my questions. From the perspective of a noob I must admit that I was a bit shocked to see how aggressive some of the editors were in their comments. Your responses helped me to understand why OVerus was deleted so fast. Clearly, Wikipedia is _not_ any type of marketing vehicle. As stated in the AfD discussion, Wikipedia is not a place to gain notability, it is a place to rest _after_ notability is established and recognized by reliable sources. Kmiklas (talk) 14:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I've really got to commend you for taking everything in stride, most people wouldn't have handled the situation nearly as well. We can always use good editors, so hopefully there's something here you'd be interested in working on. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 22:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unusual refusal to restore deleted material to userspace

I've declined (politely) to restore the OVerus material to User:Kmiklas' userspace. I feel that his COI and promotional agenda are so blatant that I couldn't in good faith give him this stuff. I wonder if you concur with my reasoning here? --Orange Mike | Talk 15:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a problem with that. While he's been very civil in his handling of the matter (which is largely why I've been answering his questions), given his COI he simply shouldn't be trying to write the article (which perhaps is a point I should emphasize more to him). And even if there wasn't a COI issue, I don't think the company is close to meeting the notability standard. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 15:48, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Noland

No, I looked for the field on the net and I found it was strange no one had anything about it. I live in the area and I have heard many stories about the battle at Noland, maybe it's just stories though, I'm not sure. I've planned to gather information on it so I don't have much at the moment. Vilepluume (talk) 23:14, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, feel free to gather more references. But the fact that I can't find anything makes me thing that perhaps the Noland Battlefield is a local name only. I did look on wiki for other possible names, but the revolutionary war isn't my strong point. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 23:16, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I was planning on asking some people about it tomorrow. Thanks for understanding, and the War isn't exactly my strong point, either :p Vilepluume (talk) 23:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
