Warwick Veterans High School (also known as Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, WVMHS, or Vets) is a 9-12th grade secondary school in Warwick, Rhode Island. The school building is two stories high and features eight wings of classes, mainly divided by subject (A, B, C, D, "E" F, G, and 900 wing). The logo for all Vets "Hurricane" teams is a reverse-rotating hurricane symbol. School colors are blue, gold, and white. The school has an enrollment of over one thousand students, and its principal is Gerald Habershaw.

The school was created in the mid 1950s as a response to a booming Warwick population — the previous high school (now Samuel Gorton Junior High) was too small for the large number of incoming students. In the 1970s, an extension (now called 900 wing) was added to the school. Since the 1970s, two additional high schools have been constructed to answer Warwick's population increase.

Athletics

The ice hockey team underwent a two year winless streak after relocating from division B to division A. The girls' field hockey team was the 2005 division and state champions. Additionally, the boys' outdoor track team were city champions for eight straight years and division B champions for four years. The freshman football team reached the championship game in two consecutive years (2004-05 & 2005-06) but lost both games to cross town rivals Pilgrim High School and William E. Tolman High School of Pawtucket. They also have a boys lacrosse club. The Warwick Vets Cheerleading program is very active also. The Varsity team took 1st place in the RI State competition last year('07). In 2007 the boys basketball team had its first thousand point scorer in several years.

Other activities

The school features active chapters of FBLA, DECA, Math League, Academic Decathlon, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, and other clubs. Warwick Veterans also has a concert band that performs several concerts a year, a marching band that plays at parades on Veterans Day and Gaspee Day, and a jazz band and concert orchestra that usually perform with the concert band — all are run by Danielle Prior. A chorus and jazz chorus are also part of the school's musical department and are run by Nancy Kennedy.
