Gio Aplon was born Giovandewente Johanskappie Aplon in the Cape Flats to Graeme "Apple" Aplon and Lizette Aplon. He had a hard life playing rugby with his friends on dirt fields in the Cape Flats. He has a big family consisting of 7 brothers and 14 sisters. His family was not well off and he had to use a watermelon to practice his rugby with his father "Apple" Aplon.

Gio Aplon (born (1982-10-06)6 October 1982) is a South African rugby union footballer.He scored two tries in a 42-17 triumph against the six nations winner - France. The match was also his debut playing as a south african winger number 14.
