ATV is the largest privately operated terrestrial television network in Pakistan; the channel has the second largest national viewership base in the country. The channel was launched on May 1, 2005.

Channel profile

Today ATV is a symbol of quality television entertainment and news in Pakistan. The phenomenal growth of the channel can be best judged from the fact that the channel which had its only transmitting station at Islamabad in 1990 now operates with 20 stations covering all major cities and commercial centres of Pakistan. The ATV stations are located at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Daska, Multan, Bahawalpur, Larkana, Hyderabad ,Sukkur, Peshawar, Mingora, Qalat, Batkhaila, Khuzdar, Thandyani, Sahiwal, Sibi, Quetta and Tando Allahyar covering over 50% of the population. The success of ATV is primarily attributable to its extremely popular family entertainment, news & current affairs programs.[citation needed]

The program mix of ATV includes entertainment (40%), information (37%) and education (23%).[citation needed]

A-News

In spite of being an entertainment channel, ATV has always broken the most important news in country, earlier than any other channel.[citation needed] It includes important news of country, worldwide, sports, business and weather. Due to requests of viewers of ATV, the channel is working on Entertainment segment in news for providing latest entertainment news to viewers. Almost 77% viewers sent requests to open this segment. But now the channel focus on too much entertainment news, almost 3 news in a month, due to which viewers are disappointed.[citation needed]

Availability

ATV is available throughout Pakistan, terrestrially (on antenna) and in 86 countries of the world through Asia Sat 3. ATV can also be viewed online at ATV website.

Network expansion

In 2010, ATV developed its network further by launching the test transmission of Pakistan's first women channel, ALite. On 3 April 2010, ATV organized the launch show of yet another channel APLUS, which was attended by notable television celebrities from Pakistan. On 24 June 2010, ATV celebrated its 5th anniversary and put ALITE (that was previously put off air), and APLUS, on test run. Both upcoming channels are satellite channels, and can be viewed locally and internationally

Media Cup

ATV arranged a cricket tournament in 2007 for media related companies in Pakistan. This tournament was played at Dreamworld Resort. Complete tournament was aired 4 times. It later became an annual event at the resort.
