Xylokastro is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Corinth, 30 km northwest of Corinth, near the mouth of the river Trikalitikos. Apart from the narrow strip of land along the coast, where the town Xylokastro lies, the municipal unit is mountainous. The Greek National Road 8a (Corinth - Patras]] passes through the town. |

The town offers a beautiful beach. Agriculture surrounds the town. The town was known as Viladusa by the Venetians in the mid-to-late 2nd millennium. The community has a school, a church, a police station, a post office, banks, a volleyball arena, and a square (plateia). It is famous as a seaside tourist spot and are well equipped with a number of hotels. Its nearest communications tower is on a mountain southwest of town (about 6 km). A medium earthquake rumbled the town and some of its surroundings a few kilometres into the sea on Friday October 24, 2008 and measured 4.5 on the Richter scale. |
