Universidad San Sebastián (USS, St. Sebastian University) is a private autonomous Chilean university with its headquarters situated in Santiago de Chile. It is also located in Concepción (its previous headquarters), Valdivia, Osorno and Puerto Montt.

It was founded on 1989, and later on 2001, USS gets a formal state recognition as University.[1] By 2011, it counted with 21.572 students.

In 2013 the school of medicine of this university becomes the second biggest on Chile [2]

History[1]

Universidad San Sebastián was founded in Concepción on 1989 by Raúl Poblete Almendra and Javier Pivcevic Bayer. A year later, it would begin the teaching of commercial engineering and psychology, with Carmen Vidal Montecinos as its rector.

In 1991 and 1992, USS starts teaching Law, Journalism, Social Services and the degree in education in preschool teaching.

Two years later, it will open the career of Medicine, with which the university will start to gain more attention. In the second half of the nineties, it would open the careers of Medical Technician, kinesiology and superior technician in Nursing.

In 2000, the campus Las Tres Pascualas is founded in the homonymous lake in the city of Concepción. It gained a municipal recognizement for its modern infrastructure. It will then become the headquarters of the university.

Between 2002 and 2004, the campuses in Puerto Montt, Osorno, Talcahuano (now extinct) and Valdivia.

In 2006, the university reaches Santiago.

Teaching centers [1]

In 2002 its first Teaching medical and assistencial center is founded in Concepción. Three years later, the Hospital Clínico Veterinario de Las Tres Pascualas (Veterinarian Clinical Hospital) and the Centro de Salud Universidad San Sebastián (Health Center) open in the same city.

In 2013, the Dentistry Clinical center opens in Concepción.

The USS stands by seven values instilled in its students, these are:[3]

Careers

By 2009, Santiago counted with 32 careers, Concepción 39, Valdivia 16, Osorno 14 and Puerto Montt 17.[4] Some of these are:

Sede Osorno

On June 2013, it was announced that the Osorno campus would not be accepting new students on 2014, generating diverse reaction in the student body.[5]
