Tiffindell Ski Resort is the only ski resort in South Africa and one of the two ski resorts in Southern Africa.

Located in the Southern Drakensberg, South Africa and was established in 1993.[1] The resort is built on Ben Macdhui and has a relatively high elevation of 2810 metres (9222 feet).

Location

Tiffindell is situated 24 km above the town of Rhodes and about 212 km east of Aliwal North. 2WD, 1300cc vehicles with no trailers, can reach the resort in dry conditions only via the route from Rhodes. Ben McDhui peak is the highest point in the Cape at 3001m above sea level. The resort nestles snugly on its slope at 2720m. The carefully selected position of the resort, on the south facing slope of the highest mountain in the Cape, ensures that the snow lasts, extending the time available for snow skiing. Slopes cleared and groomed during summer quickly transform to ski runs after even the lightest of snowfalls.

Re-Opening

The resort was sold at auction on 12 July 2012 for R5.5-million and is now under new ownership and re-open in 2013.[2]

The 2013 re-opening saw a successful first season and continued on in 2014 with the second winter season. The resort is now open as a summer alpine resort and will be open for the 2015 winter season.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Tiffindell's advanced snowmaking system combined with modern grooming machines ensures excellent skiing conditions. Snowmaking currently covers in excess of 1000m of ski runs for about 3 month of the year during an average winter.

A snow fun-park with rails and jumps has been built for the more adventures ski and snowboard enthusiasts.

Equipment hire and skilled ski and snowboard instructors are available at the resort.

Summer at Tiffindell

Tiffindell is not just a Ski Resort. Spring, summer and autumn seasons rival our winter uniqueness of skiing on the African continent.

Tiffindell holidaymakers and weekenders can enjoy the spectacular views, relax at the highest pub in South Africa or stroll amongst the summer alpine flowers not found anywhere else in the world. Come and enjoy a starry starry night and the tranquillity of the Eastern Cape Highlands. Spend Christmas, New Year, or Easter with a bunch of friends in our luxurious accommodation. Remember everything is a mile high at Tiffindell.

Ski Resort in neighboring country

  • Afriski - The only ski resort located in Lesotho, on the Northern Border close to Clarens and Fouriesburg in South Africa.
