Blessed Luca Passi (22 January 1789 – 18 April 1866) was an Italian priest from the Archdiocese of Venice and the founder of the Teaching Sisters of Saint Dorothy.
Passi was cleared for beatification in 2012 after a miracle was found to have been attributed to his intercession. He was beatified in 2013 in Venice.
Biography
Passi was born in 1789 into a noble family in the province of Bergamo. Passi joined the seminary and was ordained to the priesthood on 13 March 1813. With the help of his brother, Marco, he founded the Pious Society of Saint Dorothy in 1815 for Christian education for children and adolescents. This was an establishment that was praised by Pope Pius VII who encouraged that the organization expand and spread to other towns nearby. In 1838, he founded the Teaching Sisters of Saint Dorothy. He was granted the title of "Apostolic Missionary" by Pope Gregory XVI. He died in 1866.[1]
Beatification
The cause of beatification commenced on 6 March 1981. Pope Benedict XVI declared Passi to have lived a life of heroic virtue and named him to be Venerable on 6 July 2007. He later approved a decree that recognized a miracle attributed to his intercession on 28 June 2012, thus, clearing her for beatification.
He was beatified by Cardinal Angelo Amato on behalf of Pope Francis on 13 April 2013.
