The Abaza family is one of the largest families in Egypt (Cairo, Alexandria, Damanhour, Al Sharqiyah) discounting the, once, Royal Family of Muhammad Aly Pasha Al-Kebir. The family size in Egypt alone is said to reach 100,000 people. They are also said to have branches of family in Turkey, the Netherlands, and Iraq.
Famous members include:
- Wagih Abaza: Founder of Peugeot Egypt and former governor of Cairo and Damanhour and one of the Free Officers along with Gamal Abdul Nasser
- Tharwat Abaza: A very famous novelist and a very big name in Egyptian literature
- Aziz Abaza: A popular poet in Egypt
- Rushdy Abaza: A popular actor in Egypt
- Maher Abaza: Former Minister of Energy for about 17 years
- Mona Abaza: A sociologist
