Karlo Ressler (Zagreb, 26 December 1989) is a Croatian politician, since 2019 Member of the European Parliament for the Croatian Democratic Union.[1]

Biography

Ressler graduated with honours from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb. He completed his senior year at the University of Sheffield, England, participating in Erasmus Student Exchange. At the Max Planck Institute for International and Foreign Criminal Law in Freiburg, Germany, he is completing his doctorate degree on Human Trafficking in South East Europe.

After graduation, Ressler started working as an assistant at Zagreb University's Faculty of Law. From 2013 to 2016, he was an assistant to Andrej Plenković, a member of the European Parliament at the time. When Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won parliamentary elections in Autumn 2016, he was appointed as an advisor for legal and political issues to the Prime Minister Plenković.

He led the HDZ's list for the European elections in May 2019. The HDZ won 4 mandates and the highest number of votes, or 22.7 percent. Karlo Ressler won the highest number of preferential votes on the HDZ's list - 52,309 votes or 21.71 percent, which is the fourth best overall score.

Political positions

Karlo Ressler is a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) since 2009.  In 2017, he lead Working group on new Statute of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). Currently he is a member of the HDZ's Statute Commission and Vice-President of the Party's Judicial Committee. Karlo coordinated the creation of the HDZ's Program "Croatia for Generations" for the 2019 European Parliament elections.

He is the Vice-President of the Youth of the European People's Party (YEPP) for the second term.

Within the European Parliament, Karlo Ressler operates within Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).
