Crescencia Valls Espí (Onteniente, 9 June 1863 - Canals, 26 September 1936) was a Catholic Spanish embroiderer who was murdered during the Spanish Civil War. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 11 March 2001.

Life

His parents were Joaquín Valls and Francisca Espí. She was educated at the College of the Daughters of Charity of San Vicente de Paúl de Onteniente.  She worked as an embroiderer to support her family. She belonged to the charitable association Mujeres de San Vicente de Paul, as well as the Apostleship of Prayer.[1]

Her collaborations with religious organizations were the reason why she was arrested in the port of Ollería, on September 26, 1936 and murdered, along with three of her sisters,[2] by a shot in the neck twelve hours later in the port of Canals, Spain .She was buried in a common grave in the Canals cemetery. She was later exhumed and her remains were transferred to the Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Onteniente church, where they were interred.

She was part of a cause for beatification presented by the Archdiocese of Valencia. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 11 March 2001 along with 232 other marytrs.
