An Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) (Irish pronunciation: [ˈbˠɔɾˠdˠ ˈi̠əsˠkəɣ ˈwaɾˠa]) is the Irish Seafood Development Agency. It was established under The Irish Sea Fisheries Act in 1952.

Locations

BIM's Head Office is in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin with a Seafood Innovation Hub in Clonakility, Co. Cork,(https://bim.ie/seafood-processing/seafood-innovation-hub/ ) as well as regional offices around the coast, including Killybegs and Greencastle, Co Donegal, Newport, Co Mayo, Galway City, Co Galway and Castletownbere, Co Cork. For the last seventy years BIM has worked to support and develop the Irish seafood industry.

Vision

BIM's vision is to lead the Irish Seafood sector through effective support and deep expertise so that Ireland becomes the international leader in high value differentiated products that satisfy the growing demand for healthy, safe, responsibly and sustainably produced seafood.

Activities

Key activities include providing resources to the fishing, aquaculture and seafood processing industries in Ireland, such as funding supports, training by offering a range of programmes for existing and new entrants to the seafood sector, technical advise and expertise, and collaboration with Industry on projects which aid the sector's competitiveness, effectiveness and sustainable impacts.

Governance

BIM is governed and overseen by a board which is appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and comprises of six members, including a Chairman. The members are appointed, generally for a period of five years, and on a staggered approach. The Board determines BIM’s programmes in the context of EU and national policies and oversees their implementation. The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board.
