Forecast Channel - Japan's Icons

Should we bother noting that on the Wii Weather Channel that the icons for Japan's weather are clearly distinct and more cartoony than the icons for the rest of the world? Toolofthesystem 11:48, 21 December 2006 (UTC) Toolofthesystem[reply]

Forecast Channel

The forecast channel is now live in North America as well as Europe and Australia. The Japanese image no longer reflects the look of this channel and should be removed.

Outdatedness of the Forecast Channel

When I go to the Forecast Channel on my Wii (Seattle, Washington area), it often has outdated weather information. The "current" weather is as much as 5-6 hours old. And the forcasting is fairly inaccurate as well, calling for snow and 43 degree fahrenheit weather. I actually stopped using the Forcast Channel when the Internet Channel went active and have been using weather.com for betting information. All that being said, I don't want to add that unless I know of a widespread issue of it (I haven't googled it to see). But it seems that it being a feature Nintendo uses in selling the console, it should be notable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.116.162.162 (talk) 21:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Forecast Channel 5-day & UV Index

I've noticed on the Forecast Channel that neither the 5-day forecast nor the UV index are available for locations outside the United Kingdom. When I changed my Location to France in the Wii settings, this then limited my ability to view 5-day forecasts & UV indexes to only cities and towns in France.

Does this affect non-EU/AUS Wiis, and does anybody know if this is going to be the case forever? Liam Plested 00:23, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It just seems that the Forecast Channel only gets detailed weather information about your home country, only showing the most important cities of the world. It was like that for me and my nephew's Wii, his was set to an american address, so There weren't even any towns avalible in Nova Scotia, but since mine is set to Canada, it had lots of NS data, but nothing in North Carolina --Phred Levi 21:40, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

The article reads like an ad and should be cleaned up. Havok (T/C/c) 23:46, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's because it is an ad. Total copyvio, ripped straight off the Nintendo page (http://wii.nintendo.com/channel.html). Dancter 23:57, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NO!

Wrong. You are wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong! I have Press access to the Nintendo Press Room, which I HAVE permissions to use everywhere. In fact, I had posted it before Nintendo and IGN did. I swear to you. And I am including WiiVolve.com as a reference. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.202.125.157 (talkcontribs) 01:01, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, Nintendo seems to be the original copyright holder, and they have indicated on their site that the text falls under their copyright policy, which carries restrictions that make it less preferable for Wikipedia purposes. Your argument that using WiiVolve.com as a reference changes things doesn't seem to carry much weight either, as that site has also indicated that it reserves all rights to its content. Please see Wikipedia:Copyrights#Contributors' rights and obligations for more details. Unless you provide a free license such as a GFDL for the old text, and provide evidence that you have the authority to do so, we can't use it. It certainly doesn't fall under fair use. Anyway, as Havok mentioned, it read like an advertisement, which isn't keeping with WP:NPOV policy. Dancter 01:30, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you asking for me to give permission to use it? Because, as the owner of WiiVolve, I DO have rights to use it on my site. Therefore, I can give permission to use it FROM my site. And you just linked the Copyright policy of Nintendo.com. I'm referring to http://press.nintendo.com/ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.157.192.205 (talkcontribs) .

If you are talking about the permissions described at http://press.nintendo.com/, here is an excerpt from the copyright policy provided there: "No trademark and/or copyright license (either express or implied) is granted to the recipient, provided, however, that the recipient may reproduce the Images without any alteration and solely for non-promotional, non-commercial and/or editorial purposes." Nowhere in that policy was it indicated that you ("the recipient") were given permission to re-license the material as you wish. Wikipedia intends for its content be free for a wide variety of uses, which includes alterations and promotional and commercial uses. You still have not shown that you have the authority to permit that for the text. Dancter 03:32, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After looking throught this article and the Wii#Wii Channels sections, I think that most of the info is repeated in both parts. Since Nintendo has said that there are more channels on the way, the Wii page will get to crowded if they are all mentioned, so it should be streamlined here. As such, I am suggesting that the info in Wii#Wii Channels be trimmed down and any info/pics not already here be moved here. Any thoughts? JQF 18:17, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For merge Agreed, most of those are a few sentences and are just cluttering the article.217.10.142.170 19:35, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For merge A description of what the Wii Channels are, maybe a couple examples of them, and a link to Wii Channels are all that are needed for the Wii article. Zebov (talk|contribs) 00:19, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only thing needed is for Wii#Wii Channels to be cleaned-up and some information moved here. FullMetal Falcon 23:36, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For merge If the articles are merged then the Wii page would still need a list of channels (without details) as well as a general overview of what they are and hopefully an image of the menu system where one selects channels. ItIsMe 00:41, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For merge It is a feature like virtual console. There is just way to much info on the Wii page. --DivineShadow218 05:09, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not for merge I think that merging this section might be bad, Wii Channels is its own topic, it needs its own section. I think the Wii section only needs a brief explanation, not detail. Details go here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.157.192.205 (talkcontribs) 21:24, September 17, 2006 (UTC)

Comment: I'm not saying remove the Wii#Wii Channels section, but rather cut it back to just the basics, with a "Main article" tag to here, showing all the details. I think you mis-read what I was suggesting, as what you suggest is basically it. JQF 23:37, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For. There's going to be alot more channels for this topic, lets just leave a little mention on Wii and 1 example.--Signor 21:56, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Support: This is a topic too big for the main Wii article. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 06:59, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Wii Channel Images

I noticed on the website Aussie-Nintendo that there are new, almost high-res images of the Wii Channels which are in English. Some of the images include the Disc Channel, Virtual Console Channel and the Message Board too. However there is an Aussie Nintendo logo on the bottom right hand corner (similar to what IGN does). Does anyone know where the original source is? If so, it would be good to upload them to the page. The article can be found here: http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/?v=news&p=5398 Mr Ja Ja 10:57, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should this be added?

For the NEWS CHANNEL, it said that CNN will be providing news for the NEWS CHANNEL, http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126273 74.111.14.37 02:28, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think we'd need a more viable source, perhaps scans or so. I'm not sure where he got the news from, as I can't find the interview in my latest copy of Edge (Issue 169). --Zooba 14:19, 29 October 2006 (UTC) Edit: I found the interview, so as long as you cite the source correctly, it's fine to add it. I'll do it now. --Zooba 14:26, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
NoA issued a formal non-confirmation of that interview. See the edit history: it seems to have been scrubbed, because it basically said "Edge say, but Nintendo refuse to say whether it's true or not" so it was unclear. Sockatume 04:17, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wii Play History is a feature of the Message Board...

...And it should be noted that Nintendo have said that the Message board is not one of the channels.--The last sheikah 16:37, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the Wii Message Board is actually underneath the Channel Menu. It's not a Channel in the traditional sense. Webrunner 20:49, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake

"Although the December 2006 issue..."

It's not december, yet. RocketMaster 07:15, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a mistake, although it isn't December, magazines usually put the date a certain amount of time after it is sent out(Don't ask why I have no clue).GrimRepr39 03:22, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I seem to recall that many years back a magazine editor had the idea of releasing an issue dated one month ahead (i.e. releasing the December issue in the middle of November), to make it seem like they were more "up to date", somehow. Naturally everyone followed suit and they can't go back because they'll seem out of date. Just be glad it's one month and not more. The other factor is that some magazines ship 13 issues per year (releasing every 4 weeks, not every calendar month, giving 13 issues in 52 weeks) and so slip in and out of phase with the calendar. Sockatume 04:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I thought the 13-issue magazines simply had Jan-Dec, and then a special "Christmas" edition for the 13th? Liam Plested 00:26, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More new Wii Channel Images

There are lots of pictures (30 to be precise) of some of the Wii Channels on this website http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2006/11/16/pictures-of-the-wii-channels/ There are some new shots of the News Channel, the Weather Channel and the Wii Shop Channel. These would be ideal for this article! Mr Ja Ja 12:44, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Official logo?

The image description says it is, but there's no citation anywhere. Could someone look into this? Sockatume 12:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weather it's cited or not that is the official logo.--Ashitaka96 21:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd rather have some evidence that it is. Sockatume 05:39, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It appears on Nintendo's site[1], and the filename is "icon_channel_large" Webrunner 16:04, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Off Topic Comment

I edited the caption for the screenshot of the Wii menu because it does't look anything like the final disign used in the current firmware verson of the Wii. Since it looks like the screen of the developing unit, I marked it as beta just to ease the confusion. --Megamanfan3 15:04, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

limitations are a little one-sided

it does not even mention that many of these channels are not even completed yet and may have upgrades as future downloads are put out by Nintendo

Wii Shop Channel

Please don't redirect Wii Shop Channel back to this article because I needed to fix up a double redirect I accidentally created.

Wii Channels not in E3

Whoever said that the Wii Channels were revealed at E3 is incorrect. They were actually revealed during the September 14th event.

Masky 15:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

News Channel, Date?

Um...is the News Channel out yet? Because my console doesn't find an update to download it, and it's already way past Dec. 27...Sooo what's up with that when will it be released? Me-pawel 19:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It actually comes out January 27th, not December 27th. Hope that clears things up. Masky 23:27, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Nintendo released the News Channel the same way like the Forecast Channel, a day early. I updated my Wii and already got the News Channel. I'm in Australia by the way. --Pinoydeltafan1988 10:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

News Channel released early

The News channel update was just released in North America a day earlier than planned. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.201.33.55 (talkcontribs).

Future Channels

In the future can nintendo realease new Wii channels that the Wii doesn't know right now? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.223.152.52 (talk) 22:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Downloading Virtual Console games does just that, so yes. --Rabish12 05:11, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

== Wii Shop Channel Contradictory info? ==

This section seems to contradict the List of Virtual Console Games (North America) Page. Here, it says that the wii shop channel is updated at 12:00 in North America, and on the aformentioned page it says new games are added at 9:00 AM. Which one is right?
