Darren Shan is the main character in the Saga of Darren Shan, a series of books about Vampires by Irish author Darren Shan.
Family and Childhood
Darren was born to Dermot and Angie Shan. He has one sister called Annie and is best friends with Steve 'Leopard'. He likes spiders and once got a tarantula for his birthday. Unfortunately, it died when he tried to suck it up with a vacuum cleaner. He is also interested in comic books and has a large collection.
Becoming a vampire
Darren steals Madam Octa form the Cirque du Freak and it bites Steve Leonard. He goes to hospital but none of the doctors can figure out what type of poison it is. Mr Crepsley, the owner of Madam Octa, gives Darren an offer: Darren must become Mr Crepsley's assisant and he will help Steve to survive. Darren agrees and is blooded by Mr Crepsley. He fakes his own death and leaves his hometown to follow his life as a vampire.
