Mini-Peer Review

It's come a long way, I was just wondering your opinion of "my baby" so far. Not to be contrary to WP:OWN or anything, i've put 175 edits in so far, and i'm proud of her. In another few hundred edits, i'm willing to bet she'll be featured, but i'd like your two cents. Just H 00:40, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lead paragraph

Do you know of anyone that would be willing to expand the opening paragraph on my Jow Tong page? (Ghostexorcist 22:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

BRAVO! You did a great job. You are right when you said it was tough to summarize. Otherwise, I would have done it myself along time ago. Thanks. (Ghostexorcist 04:13, 2 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

License tagging for Image:Takeonvoip.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Takeonvoip.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:07, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.

Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You!

I aim to try and get the 110th list up to featured standard by the end of the month, and I hope to get the New England Patriots article up to featured standard by the end of Feburary (after today, I think they're heading to the Super Bowl! So, it'll be tough to do anything in depth while things are still unfolding. I didn't see that you spoke Chinese, do you mind if I practice mine on you as well as with the mock rfa?

Thank you for the comments, and once again, if there's anything I can do to help you out, please let me know. Just H 02:48, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

China portal

It looks pretty good, my only complaint is that the to columns get rather unbalanced when you go to lower screen resolutions, You can try to use the Sizing examples and see for yourself. Maybe you can try to improve the WikiProjects box, which looks rather empty especially on wide screens (maybe make it similar to the Categories box). The intro blurb about China is a tad long for my preferences, but others might disagree. Good work so far! Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 09:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taiwan

Hi, I think we should have different naming conventions in WP:Taiwan, because a lot of the Taiwanese people are like famous, so they have their last name shown last, and that's confusing.--Jerrypp772000 01:44, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Astrology portal

Hey, I can't thank you enough for the stuff you've done for the astrology portal. I'd like to get the selected articles/images/etc. for February done and out of the way so that updating isn't delayed like last month's. I'm not sure how other portals decide but I'd feel too imposing picking everything myself. Then again there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity on it, so discussion could just sit there unreplied. Let me know if you have any ideas. Sam 03:53, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Alicia Keys - Diary.pdf)

Thanks for uploading Image:Alicia Keys - Diary.pdf. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Striking out of a comment at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Grubber

Hi there AQu01rius. You struck out another user's comment at this RFA, citing Wikipedia:No personal attacks as your rationale for doing so. That user is quite possibly a sockpuppet, and the comment had no rationale, but there was no need to strike it out. Striking out other user's comments is pretty uncivil when you get down to it, and NPA says that: removal should be limited, except in unusual circumstances. Given how few contributions that user had, and how his vote lacked any real rationale, there wasn't any need to fear that a bureaucrat was going to count it. It is my sense that batch AfD nominations should only be done when all articles nominated are substantially similar, so I think it was an error to include List of common Chinese surnames which is not in the same style as the rest. In that case, it should only have been listed individually, if at all. I've stricken it from the nomination, restricting the nomination to the remaining similar articles. Hopefully you can clarify your comment now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks. Dmcdevit·t 09:18, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this users actions allowed?

  • Hey there (:O) ... we have an ongoing debate over here on the status of an article. Now the thing I wanted to bring up was the editing and removal and well forceful rhetoric stating the result of the debate before it has even been decided. The one causing all this is User:Ideogram. I have tried so hard to be loving and understanding during this debate, but now I dont know if what the user is doing is right or wrong. I dont know who to go to, so I figure I may ask someone who is very familiar with the wikipedia world and how this should be dealt with maybe? Not sure. Please help. Tibet Project

HI I was just surveying the top -importanc ecategory when you tagged it more deletion. SHould n't it just be Top importance Tibet articles? After all the template still read WIkiProject China Its just I am organizing the Category under CHina like Hong Kong. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just set up Category:Top-importance Tibet articles. I have categorized it as Category:WikiProject Tibet ok? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this what you mean? Template:WikiProject Tibet banner? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please note though that Portal:Tibetan Buddhism exists and all the categories for WikiProject Tibetan Buddhism most of which are empty. SHould this be moved to WikiProject Tibet? Plus I don't think User:Sylvain1972 is aware of events. I don't know how many articles are related to Tibetan Buddhism but it can't be a huge number although I do see the idea of the project from a religious viewpoint. But I am quick to say that a major part of Wikiproject Tibet is religously entwined anyway. What shall we do? I don't want to offend people who started that project by moving their page but isn't it best under Wikiproject Tibet? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't create that banner though. However please could you make two adjustmnets to the CHina Tibet= yes template. About the This is maintained by the Tibet workgroup please can you change it to "This article is maintained by the WikiProject Tibet workgroup".

Also could you add the Potala image symbol of wiki project tibet before "This article" in the China template or put it in the place of the Chinese symbol in the margin?. Like the Chinese template has that image but a smaller image of the Potala it the Tibet work section ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:01, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think I have solved the conroversy between labelling pages like the Dalai Lama as chinese by keeping the Tibetan Buddhims template -CHanging it to Wikiproject Tibet:Tibetan Buddhism and adding the Category: WikiProject Tibet articles -this way it avoids the China tag but is still in the Category:Tibetan articles. This should avoid conflict I think! Tibetan buddhism is a useful way to avoid directly labelling figures such as the Dalai laam as under China - this might lead to some serious opposition!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most pages though should be tagged as Chinese|tibet=yes but ones which are less sensitive and more politically correct! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have sorted it out now - I am keeping the Wikiproject Tibetan Buddhism as a sub order of WIkiProject Tibet - the template is useful for identifying buddhist articles from the tibet/china articles - going in both categries for more focus ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 18:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CHINA Reassessment parameter?

Hi, I've recently seen some articles that have been expanded and now need to be reassessed. Would it be feasible to set up a parameter for this? Someone could set the parameter to "yes", the article could go into a or something, and then we would know where to go to find them. I know that we already have a section to request assessment or reassessment, but this would automate it somewhat.--Danaman5 19:03, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub Article Expanded for Southern and Northern Dynasties Article

Hi, I'm new to joining wiki. I have a question: besides telling you and making you aware here, how do I report that I expanded a stub article so that it can be removed from the stub list? I recently expanded the Southern and Northern Dynasties article (citing my source), since it was a pathetic stub that sorely needed expanding (lol). I added two new sections: the Northern Dynasties and the Southern Dynasties; I hope you like the improvements!

--PericlesofAthens 05:46, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind! I figured out what to do after reading the "help" link where the stub notice was located in the article. No longer a stub...
