Contribution to Ophthalmology in Kerala
Dr. Suseela Prabhakaran started her career as a lecturer in Ophthalmology, in Department of Medical Education, Government of Kerala, India. She was actively involved with the improvement in health cares services in Kerala state, especially in the field of Ophthalmology. Through NGO's like WHO and Innerwheel she was able to introduce major advances in eye care to the people of Kerala. Dr. Suseela Prabhakaran was instrumental is upgrading the Government Eye Hospital Trivandrum to a Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. She was also the Advisor in Ophthalmology to the Government of Kerala.
She established Divya Prabha Eye Hospital on leaving Government service. Continuing the tradition of hard work she was able to transform the small eye clinic she started to a full fledged eye hospital. Official web page of Divya Prabha Eye Hospital
Involvement with NGO's
She was the Charter President of Inner Wheel Club of Trivandrum South which has taken up prevention of blindness as its continuing project. Innerwheel District 321 Chairman 91-92. IW District 321 comprises of 30 IW clubs spread over Kerala and Tamilnadu. Eye donation and Prevention of blindness was the district project
Awards received Carapet Gold medal for securing 1st rank in the state for SSLC examination. Gold medallist for Final Year MBBS in Surgery WHO Fellowship Award in Ophthalmic Microsurgery in 1981 at: Knight of the blind award of Lions International .
