This page allows unregistered and new users to add new images with the assistance of experienced Wikipedians. The easiest way to upload a new image, however, is to create a free Wikipedia user account and then log in. No personal information is necessary to register, and registered users can create new articles without the hassle or delay of the Images for Upload process.

Unregistered users: Instructions

  • Verify that the image is free (in the public domain or available under an open license) or meets Wikipedia's standards for fair use and choose a licence and pasting the text in the {{}} (including the brackets themselves) when posting the image request, this makes it easier for us to abide by copyright law.
  • Create a new section of this page with the proposed image title as the heading.
  • Indicate the URL from which you want the image to be obtained.
  • State why you want the image uploaded.
  • Put --~~~~ at the end of your request. This step is important! Do not skip it.

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 132.160.192.10 (talk) 00:29, 26 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

After you do this, a registered user will upload the file if the request conforms to all the instructions above and to all Wikipedia policies. Most images on the Internet do not qualify.

Hamilton, Ontario

I would like this photo of Hamilton, Ontario which I took myself to be uploaded to wikipedia for use on the Hamilton, Ontario page found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton,_Ontario

This is the photo link: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/tlo182/DSCN0819.jpg

I feel that the photos of Hamilton currently on the site do not do the city justice - as it is the armpit of Ontario as well as cancer central. The filth that gets pumped into the skies there on a daily basis ensures that the scenery is not as green as portrayed on wikipedia, and that the city does not look as nice as it appears on wikipedia. It is definitely not an accurate depiction of my hometown. 74.122.154.210 22:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just updated this entry and would very much apreciate including this picture.

Thank you very much.

Cordially.

Did you make the image yourself, or did the author releace it into the public domain? I looked at your link, and it looks like a fan made it. If so, it is copywrited and the fair use part of patent law would not apply. If it is made by the compainy, please indicate that. ffm yes? 19:58, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

image of cover of banned Libyan magazine

I am requesting this image under Fair use for inclusion in the HIV_trial_in_Libya. The image is a cover of November 1998 issue 78 of 'La' magazine. Scans were posted online. I archived them at webcitation.org Why it should be included in the article:

  • This issue of the magazine broke the story of the Aids epidemic at a hospital in Benghazi. It was shut down by the Libyan government. The image conveys the intense reaction of the Libyan public to the news.
  • Image of Bulgarian "you are not alone campaign" only conveys part of the story. This is another critical part to understanding how the issue developed, and does so with an intensity which is difficult to achieve in writing.

Why Fair Use:

  • No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information.- this is the magazine that broke the story. It also conveys the Libyan public reaction which is critical to understanding how the issue developed- without this historic magazine article, there may never have been an HIV trial in Libya.
  • would not likely replace the original market - this magazine is banned and forbidden in Libya -there is no original market for the work.
  • The material was previously been published
  • The material is encyclopedic -for reasons described above
  • I am stating here , "a fair use rationale for the specific use of the image that you intend"
  • The material will be used in at least one article.
  • The material will contribute significantly to the article- in addition to the above reasons, this magazine issue is referred to specifically several times within the text of the article.

"Can this image be replaced by a different one, while still having the same effect?" NO

further note from official policy on Wikipedia, fair use policy specific to this request

"if that magazine issue itself is notable enough to be a topic within the article, then fair use may apply."

Scan of November 1998 issue 78 of banned 'La' magazine cover is archived Here: 'La' magazine cover issue 78 November 1998

Yes the picture is in the public domain and can be used - a copy of which can be found on the website above.88.104.79.202 16:14, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But, unless a notice is placed on the site itself, we have no way of knowing you have the rights to release the image into the public domain. Please write on the page in question (your site) that it is free to be used. ffm talk 16:43, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

West Side Story Playbill

I would like to suggest that the cover of this playbill be added to the infobox in the article about the 1957 stage production of West Side Story (musical) at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Side_Story. The article about the film of WSS contains a thumbnail of the poster; why can't the stage show's article also include an image? I assume the playbill image can be used because it is now 50 years old. The image can be found on eBay (item 290100972381) at http://cgi.ebay.com/WEST-SIDE-STORY-LEONARD-BERNSTEIN-PLAYBILL-1958_W0QQitemZ290100972381QQihZ019QQcategoryZ60413QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem . 66.26.79.152 02:10, 8 April 2007 (UTC)simonlefranc@hotmail.com[reply]

Revised Standard Version of the Bible

Template:Fairuseunsure

I would like to see the photo of the original edition RSV title page added to the article Revised Standard Version, to the section, "The Making of the RSV". The photo is available at

http://cgi.ebay.com/1952-REVISED-STANDARD-VERSION-BIBLE-BOOK_W0QQitemZ140092890266QQihZ004QQcategoryZ29223QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

There are two versions of the photo; I would like to see the larger version uploaded.

I believe the photo would allow readers to get a glimpse of what the original edition looked like on the inside. And besides, the articles for King James Version and American Standard Version also show those versions' title pages.

I am grateful to whoever uploads it; and if this request is declined, so be it.
