All Saved Freak Band
All Saved Freak Band was an early Christian rock band formed in the late 1960s. The group was based out of a Christian commune that lived on a farm in Orwell, Ohio. Members included Mike Berkey, Ed Darkest, Tom Eritano, Rob Galbreath, Larry Hill, Tom Hill, Morgan King, Joe Markko, Randy Markko, Kim Massman, Pam Massman, Tom Miller, and Glenn Schwartz.
The band was started as a musical outreach of Larry Hill's Church of the Risen Christ. Their music is comparable to that of Bob Dylan, The Who, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. Their second album, For Christians, Elves, and Lovers, is based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkein.
The group's leader, Larry Hill, published declarations of the end of the world, claiming that only members of his commune would be saved. The group stockpiled weapons, trained in martial arts. Hill made the women his sexual servants and put the men in a barn, where they were occasionally whipped or humiliated. The group disbanded in the mid-70s when government agencies intervened upon reports of child abuse in the commune.
