This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}. Foreign language articles about people which have no assertion of notability can now be listed for speedy deletion using the template {{Db-bio-notenglish|language}}.

If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation. As an alternative, you can leave a message on the contributing users talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.

Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.

If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.

When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as xrce, or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.

Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD G12 can be speedily deleted with {{db-copyvio}}, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.

When pages listed here have been translated, their entry can be removed (or moved to cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).

Boilerplate text

For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):

1. Use the notice {{Notenglish|NameOfLanguage}} if you know the language used, or {{Notenglish}} if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
2. Add a mention on this page, using:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~ replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language if you know which language was used, or {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~ if you cannot identify the language used
3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with {{Uw-english}}, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with {{contrib-xx1}}, where xx is the language code. An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is {{uw-notenglish}}. Usage is {{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|datein2weeksfromlisting}}~~~~.

If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:

1. Use [[Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation]].
2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
''Section [[#name-of-section|name-of-section]] contains text that needs translation into English.''.
3. Add a mention on this page.

If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:

1. Use the notice {{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
This article contains translated text and needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency.
Please see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion.

If you have just labeled this page as needing such attention, please add
{{subst:Duflu| pg=Pages needing translation into English| Language= | Comments= }}--~~~~
to the bottom of Pages needing translation into English.

2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section on this page.

Slovenian parliamentary election, 2004

Slovenian AFAIK. -Yupik 22:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aye, it's Slovenian or Slovene or however you want to call it. Shouldn't be too hard to do this one at all, since (according to the article) all that needs doing is sticking a translation of the party names into the section which doesn't have them. Those names are currently about a section higher than the one in question. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 05:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've hit a road block here, in that two of the groups of parliamentarians don't seem to translate into political parties in the main list. I'll keep trying my luck, but since I don't speak any Slovene beyond "Hello, how are you?" I won't mind a bit if someone else jumps in. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 04:52, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cute Princess

(I've moved this from the edit section below as there's a substantial amount of translation to be done on it. -Yupik 11:14, 23 June 2007 (UTC)) The language of this article is unknown, presumably a dialect of Chinese. Author seems to be working on translation slowly, article was just started. Darkbane talk 14:48, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know I've stuck this up on this page before, but it seems to go missing. Still a huge chunk of Hungarian left to be translated. -Yupik 10:06, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

تنوب

The language of this article is unknown. تنوب اسم لقرية كبيرة في السودان وتقع في وسط السودان في مشروع الجزيرة وتحفها المزارع الخضراء من كل الجهات وغالبية أهالها من المتعلمين--Evb-wiki 11:51, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's Arabic, about a village in Sudan by the name of Tanub. I didn't check it on the Arabic-language Wikipedia or on Google. If it survives both of those checks, I'd say translate, then keep. It's a stub now, but most geographical articles are. Cbdorsett 16:27, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tarja Kallio-Tamminen

The language of this article is Finnish. This article about a very notable philosophy author has been picked from the Finnish encyclpaedia (was there already). Needs to be translated Amit 16:55, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I plan to add links to this article to Quantum Metaphysics and Philosophy related articles once it's translated (and expanded). -- Amit 16:58, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sak'art'velos Skauturi Modzraobis Organizatsia

Found this loose in Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation. Georgian scouting organisation. Half-translated already. Jamie 10:33, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The scouting oath still needs translation from Georgian. Kusma (討論) 17:28, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've been prodding people that know Georgian to do this, but no one has taken me up on the offer yet. I've also posted about it to the Georgian portal, but that also has not resulted in it being done. Hopefully someone does this sooner or later; I don't know any Georgian, so I'm no help :D -Yupik 08:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No knowledge of Georgian necessary - the Georgian is all translations of the English original. Just find the English scouting organization, cut and paste. Cbdorsett 15:46, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erzgebirgisch

Just starting a translation from the German article. The German is a little technical for me, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Aelffin 20:06, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have created Erzgebirgisch/Translation_workspace and started the first section. It is quite a long page, so I would rather do it step by stepJasy jatere 09:48, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still needs some help, both with Standard German and the Erzgebirgisch example given in the Sample text section. Cbdorsett 15:13, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but I wonder whether {{notenglish|Erzgebirgisch}} is a good template for this. The sample text is indeed not English, but that is precisely the point of a sample text. Maybe one could have a two column representation, with Erzgebirgisch on the left and English on the right.
Under no circumstances should the text be deleted, since it illustrates the subject under discussion in a way very similar to a picture. Also note that the use of Erzgebirgisch in the sample text is an instance of Object language and not of Metalanguage. Object language is never translated.
Finally, the text is intelligible to people studying Germanic languages, at least with the grammatical explanation provided in the article. For similar treatment of a comparable language see Scots_language. Jasy jatere 12:59, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kyoto Broadcasting System

The initial language of this article was Japanese. Needs help both in the Supplement section on content, and the Programming section for both text translations and time conversions -- I'd guess the times past 23:59 denote times after midnight referenced by the previous day's name, but it'd be helpful for someone with cultural knowledge to confirm. --VT hawkeyetalk to me 03:25, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Compressed air vehicles

Kern-83 10:45, 26 June 2007 (UTC) :I'm moving this to Wikipedia:Translation since there doesn't actually seem to be an article with that name in the English wiki. -Yupik 11:31, 26 June 2007 (UTC) Scratch that, the name of the article is actually Compressed air vehicles. -Yupik 11:39, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talesrunner

The language of this article is Chinese. Author working on translation. May need help to speed things along. AlphaEta 05:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Translation seems to be about 50% now. I did some copyediting and cleaning up the English - needs a lot more help. Looks like a start-class gamelover page. Any gamers out there that can help out? Cbdorsett 03:57, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Article is now fully translated. Still could use some help with normalizing the English. The article is presently (July 1) tagged as "in use." Cbdorsett 06:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Li Feihui

Large chunks of albums, etc., in Chinese. Notable. -Yupik 07:02, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shōgo Hamada

Japanese, notability req filled. -Yupik 14:18, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kumi Koda

Someone wants the references translated from Japanese to English. -Yupik 14:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea. The rest of the article looks plenty notable. >> Translate, do not delete. Cbdorsett 15:51, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have begun translation of Japanese titles of referenced sources and light reformating of the citations (I won't drag out citation templates, but will use Template:Cite web as a guide for ordering the available information). Anyone capable of making the translations is welcome to pitch-in. --Meyer 03:17, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of Sgt. Frog episodes

More Japanese; I'm not sure this meets any notability reqs. -Yupik 14:31, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is mostly English. Looks like a work in progress that was abandoned. It's probably no less notable than a lot of other pages that list episodes of a TV series. I think it should be referred to a Japanese-English translator. Cbdorsett 16:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This one, too, by coincidence, has 11 titles still untranslated. Cbdorsett 06:09, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alvaro Valbuena

The language of this article is Spanish. The Rambling Man 17:19, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's now English, but the article needs serious attention:

  • Copyedit header section - fix up the English
  • Fix copyright infringement in "Foreword" section - it's entirely a quote from a printed work
  • A few odd words here and there need to be translated to English (enero, bibliografia, etc.)
  • Quote marks need to be converted to English style

Cbdorsett 06:30, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As Cbdorsett says, this article needs serious attention. -Yupik 10:21, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I took out the Foreword, which was one long quote, as I didn't think anything in it was rescuable for the encyclopedia. Someone who knows about how art exhibitions work should prune the rest of the article, e.g. I don't think it is necessary to list every exhibition catalogue. XHTVM-TV

The original language is in Spanish. I've bneen able to translate much of it into english, but my spanish is extremely bad, and Babelfish.altavista.com can only do so much, as well. Most of the page is in English, and Broken English at this time. The Legendary RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 17:29, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Xavier Armange

Badly translated/transferred from French Wikipedia. - Mike Rosoft 14:40, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The French one isn't really better; also got notability concerns. I shall look into it. Lectonar 15:25, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a clean up job as best I can but don't know how to handle an author infobox. I think he is notable, seems to be quite a prolific illustrator. I'm wondering about the best English translation of "album illustré", which I understand to be the large hardback format that the Asterix and Tintin books come in. Itsmejudith 15:55, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think there is no good translation for that one, as it is a format specific to french books/comics...would "illuminated/illustrated book" catch the gist? Lectonar 16:01, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to comic, it should be called a comic album. Cbdorsett 04:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, strike my comment above...but if you have a look at fr:album illustré, it may be much more than a comic album...Lectonar 17:50, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of Bishops of Sion

The initial language of this article was French. I'll try to clean it up myself, but I'm not likely to get to this quickly. — OwenBlacker 12:55, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've done some work on this. It was fun because the translation was so bad. Eg the VIe siecle was the LIFE century! But I've no knowledge of the technical terms etc so this still needs an expert eye. Redlentil 17:24, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fonglin, Hualien

The language of this article is Chinese. andy 10:36, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I moved all the Chinese text into comments. It appears to be a translation in progress, based on most of the linked Chinese-language Wiki article zh:鳳林鎮 (台灣). I notified the uploader about our policies. I'm not sure whether the article should stay listed on this page. Cbdorsett 04:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
