John Allen Paulos

John Allen Paulos is a professor of mathematics at Temple University in Philadelphia who has gained fame as a writer and speaker, usually on the topic of mathematics and the importance of mathematical literacy, although he is also drawn to other subjects, such as the mathematical basis of humor.

Paulos received the 2003 AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) Award for Public Understanding of Science and Technology.

Paulos grew up in Chicago and Milwaukee and received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His academic work is mainly in mathematical logic and probability theory.
