About Me

After a few random edits here and there to clean up articles I was reading for my further enlightenment, I decided to go ahead and register in late October, 2006 to contribute in a more organized and systematic fashion. My primary objective in article creation is to fill information gaps.

Interests

  • Primarily anime and manga as can be seen from the majority of the articles I've created.
  • In real life I have a keen interest in military history. On Commons a lot of the PD photos I seem to be looking for and uploading are military-related.

Current projects

Priorities tend to shift depending on how I feel about certain projects. I typically tend to focus on a particular anime and fill in missing information or pictures, but lately have been bouncing around as soon as something new or in need of workup catches my eye. However I don't completely abandon projects, as I keep tabs on what's going on with my watchlist.

Ideas/To Do

Not in order of priority.

  • Set up list of Ranma ½ albums.
  • Split off Ranma ½ OVAs and movies into their own respective article spaces from episodes.
  • Add profiles for Battle Angel Alita characters still outstanding.
  • Add profiles for Battle Angel Alita: Last Order characters still outstanding.
  • Create more userboxes:
Anime: Slam Dunk, Ranma ½...
History: Andrew Jackson, First French Empire, Golden Age of Piracy, Age of Discovery, 100 Years' War...
  • Create Starship Troopers, Gainax templates

Wikiphilosophy

I have developed the following ideas over time based on my experience here, which reflect my own personal viewpoint.

  • Don't do something in expectation of getting recognition or an award, as most of the time you will be disappointed. Surprises are the best.
  • After a while, you stop caring about your edit count as much as you did when you started out.
  • I don't consider the following to be Wiki awards, in part because they get thrown around a lot for good reason, but don't necessarily reflect an individual's efforts towards furthering the project or assisting other editors in some way: Wikithanks and Wikismiles.
  • Wikipedia is not Myspace. As with any other online venue, editors place personal information about themselves in their user pages at their own risk. I've seen a few examples that turned ugly for certain editors, causing them to leave. Unless you're prepared to take some flak, don't do it, it's not worth it.

Anti-vandal fighting tips

Vandals on the attack.

I don't use any of the tools yet, so this is based on the old school method. Things to look out for:

  • Edits by registered users who have their names in red (they haven't created a user page yet) with large drops in text; from what I've seen, many of these turn out to be vandalism-only accounts.
  • Edits by said users or IPs to a registered user's user page.
  • Large drops in text size of an article are obvious, but smaller changes (+/-) can also be vandalism, especially by IPs.
  • If you have enhanced recent changes (requires Javascript) activated, the "N" indicating a new page can aid in catching speedy deletion candidates.

Tips to reduce Wikistress

  • Take a genuine vacation to a location where you will not have Internet access.
  • Turn off the following in your watchlist: minor edits, bot edits, your own edits.

Name etymology

See Sphere Break#Sphere Break. I was playing Final Fantasy X-2 when I registered. The term "broken sphere" is not actually used in relation to this minigame, but I wanted to use something Final Fantasy related that was new and other than another online username I have used in several places relating to Final Fantasy VIII.

Travels

I hope to add more flags to this list as the opportunities arise.
