Andrés Useche

Andres Useche (born November 7, 1977 in Manizales, Colombia) is an artist, musician, singer/songwriter and filmmaker.

Useche began writing at three, drawing at five and saw his first political cartoon "Soy Libre" published on a college newspaper at age eleven. While in High School, Useche won the Colombian Ministry of Culture Individual Creation Prize in Graphic Arts with his graphic novel Vana Espuma. Upon high school graduation Useche wrote "Azul de Noche", a quintet performed by members of the Manizales Chamber Orchestra. Its conductor, lead violinist Gillermo Gomez, would go on to perform with Andres on the compositions and live multimedia projects Andres created during his college years.

In the late nineties, Useche also scored documentaries and in the course of a three day weekend wrote, directed, edited and scored Vana Espuma, a film with a 100 dollar budget which won the Best Fiction Film, Best screenplay and Best actress South American Cesar awards (Cesares), along with other nominations for Useche for Best Actor and Best Music.

After graduating as a visual designer with emphasis on Film from the Universidad de Caldas, Useche moved to Los Angeles, California, where he has worked as a script writer and is developing a feature film project.

In 2008, in support of Sen. Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, Useche wrote and performed in the viral video Si Se Puede Cambiar, a Spanish language music video directed by Eric Byler, which debuted on YouTube on February 22, from the group United For Obama.
