Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Scetoaux (talk | contribs) at 21:25, 31 March 2008 (→‎{{li|Rowena Memorial School.jpg}}: ah, that's how that template works.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Supercar (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

indefinite full protection Dispute, Since the original researched and unsourced article have been binned following discussion on WP:CAR and rewritten to a more verified piece due to an argument over what is and what isn't a supercar, a number of users (particularly IP ones) have been reverting over and over again. This has occurred since the beginning of the year when the changes of the article have been done and has been a sunject of edit warring. Willirennen (talk) 21:22, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

temporary full protection , Blizzard Entertainment often does strange things for April fools, including false press releases that will probably spawn a ton of false edits to this article. Full protection for two days (April fools and the day after) would help a lot..User:Krator (t c) 16:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question: We can always wait to see what happens. Protection isn't really used pre–emptively. Rudget. 16:17, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Somehow I think that protection requests on the first of April will be rather flooded and slow, doing it now saves time. It's only two days anyway. User:Krator (t c) 16:43, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Neve Gordon (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

indefinite semi-protection Vandalism, The subject of this article has won a libel action, confirmed by an appeals court, against an opponent of his political views. Frequent vandalism by one-off new accounts repeatedly denies this, and repeats the original libels. Indefinite semi-protection will help prevent this defamatory BLP abuse, while allowing established editors to work on the article. .RolandR (talk) 08:25, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:51, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I very strongly disagree with this decision. Over the past month, there have been thirteen apparently libellous edits by confirmed or suspected sockpuppets of Borisyy, as well as several by sockpuppets of Runtshit. They all violate WP:BLP, and many of them repeat statements already found by two courts to be libellous, with the result that the subject of the article has been awarded damages. It is irresponsible to leave this article open to such abuse. RolandR (talk) 16:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Barack Obama (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Stormfront (website) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotect - this article has had six months of semi-protection and has been much improved; the majority of the article, including all controversial claims, are reliably sourced. There has not been any recent significant vandalism or IP edits to the talkpage. In this environment, I do not see any justification for protection to continue. Skomorokh 18:49, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protection It's a shame that the semi-protection of this page expired the day before Mr. Mayweather appeared on WWE again. Heavy amount of IP vandalism today. Darkspots (talk) 04:17, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected 2 weeks. - Philippe 04:43, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not protected. Why are IP addresses still able to edit it??? D.M.N. (talk) 14:27, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This article was not semi-protected. Philippe put a 2-week tag on the article, but did not protect the page. Darkspots (talk) 14:36, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Guessing its just a mistake, left a note with Philippe. Tiptoety talk 14:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure that's all it was. I just find that comments on this page are usually overlooked once a tag is on the listing--see D.M.N.'s comment. So I relisted it. Darkspots (talk) 14:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Akinwale Arobieke (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

indefinite semi-protection Vandalism, Because of the nature of the subject matter, this page is extremely prone to vandalism. This is mostly petty vandalism but comes from a wide variety of users; as world+dog seems to think it would be amusing to insert the name of their best friend/worst enemy into the article. Short term protection isn't useful, as it may put off today's vandals but not tomorrow's. Because of this, I'd like to propose the page is indefinitely semi-protected..Marwood (talk) 13:08, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
