The forbidden truth article was deleted before some proof or importance can be shown. U can find the proof here, http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=47868 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ftbd (talkcontribs) 10:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

The article did not contain any assertion of notability and met criteria for deletion. If you think the band does meet Wikipedia's guidelines for music outlined at WP:MUSIC, then you can recreate the article or I can undelete it so that you can add the necessary info. -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:53, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

OK, I've restored the article to give you a chance to work on it. (But just so you know, it can still be nominated for deletion again by other editors.) -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:14, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi. :) I happened to notice that when you restored this article, you didn't restore the talk page. (The restoration was fresh up on the deletion log when I checked it today; I noticed then, but kept the article open while doing other things so as not to anticipate you.) I'm pretty sure that it's restoration is uncontroversial, so I've taken the liberty of bringing it back. Not much on it but a project tag, but it has been assessed so it might save some duplicate effort. If I've misread the situation and you would rather I not have restored the talk page, then please accept my hearty apologies and feel free to redelete. :) Second-guessing people sometimes backfires and there may be other factors you had in mind there of which (obviously) I'm unaware. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Wallaceij - deleted page

Hello, I tried to start the page, Applying to Graduate School in Psychology: Advice From Successful Students and Prominent Psychologists. I understand that parts of the original page appeared to be blatent advertising. I revised the page to remove blatent advertising and increased a focus on the book as a first of its kind. I also placed an entry on the talk page defending place as a legitimate entry, which I've reproduced here:

This page represents a legitimate encyclopedia entry because it is the first book published by the American Psychological Association - the largest and most popular publisher of psychological resources - to be edited by current graduate students in psychology. This is a significant accomplishment in view of the 100's if not 1000's of books on pursuing higher education that are exclusively published by professionals. Furthermore, it is also unique to other such resources because it is predominantly authored by graduate students.

To reduce the impression that this page is an advertisement, I have removed the long block quote describing the marketable qualities of the book.

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Applying_to_Graduate_School_in_Psychology:_Advice_From_Successful_Students_and_Prominent_Psychologists"

My intention creating this page was to document the novelty of a book about getting into graduate school in psychology that is edited by actual graduate students. It is a first of its kind, which seems like a legitimate reason for being included in an encyclopedia such as Wikipedia. If not, please explain.

Additionally, please move my deleted page to my userpage. Thank you. --Ian (talk) 19:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Based on the content of the article, I don't think the book meets Wikipedia's standards for inclusion as outlined at Wikipedia:Notability (books). However, I have created a copy of the article at User:Wallaceij/Applying to Graduate School in Psychology so that if you think does meet notability criteria, you can work on improving the article there. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:00, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
After reviewing the notability criteria, I can see that the book, which is the subject of my proposed page, doesn't meet any criterion. Thanks for clarifying things. --Ian (talk) 23:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Hub Bike Coop Talk page

OK, the Hub Bike Coop article has now been deleted TWICE. I added a talk page to start a discussion regarding the article's problems, a discussion which you swiftly DELETED. So what is wrong with you??? Are you against healthy debate??? Do you oppose constructive negotiation??? Are you seemingly hell-bent on destroying the American ideals of the right to free speach and opinion??? Well if you are, I highly reccommend that you leave Wikipedia IMMEDIATELY, because it is people like YOU who create these one-sided non peer-reviewed articles. Frankly, that is quite the opposite of Wikipedia's goal. Next time you want to raise hell with my efforts, tell me. Let's not resort to guerilla war-tactics here, Edgar. Your's sincerely, Ldud, crusader of Wikipedian rights. ل داد 10:08, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

An article titled Hub Bike Coop has never existed. Can you tell me the name of the article you are referring to? -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:26, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Hub Bicycle Co-op, I think. BobAmnertiopsisChitChat Me! 21:23, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
OK, I see now. Thanks, Bob.
Ldud, Hub Bicycle Co-op was deleted May 24th by Orangemike (talk · contribs). A couple of weeks later, you created the talk page for the article. It's unlikely that anyone would come across "orphaned" talk pages to discuss the deletion, so these kinds of pages are routinely deleted (this is a criteria for speedy deletion, and the reason I deleted the talk page). If you want to discuss the deletion of the article, it would be best contact Orangemike and talk to him, and if that doesn't work out you can look into Wikipedia:Deletion review. Hope this helps. -- Ed (Edgar181) 01:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I was looking into this (I removed the message from AIV) and just saw you blocked this IP - I have a feeling the block is actually the fault of CanadianLinuxUser (talk · contribs) who upset an anon user by reverting their good faith edit, which was actually a correct edit, and then slapped a warning template on the anon user. Neıl 15:14, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, looking closer, it does appear that CanadianLinuxUser erred, but I wouldn't say that the block is his fault. I would say that the anon user who made the personal attacks is responsible for his own actions. I normally block for that kind of thing, but since it's not as clear-cut as it originally appeared to me, I'll unblock and warn instead. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Edgar. Much appreciated. Neıl 15:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ed. Can you please check the CAS number? The number 123948-87-8 is given in the article and confirmed on nlm.nih.gov, while the number in DrugBank is 119413-54-6. Is one the pure substance and the other the hydrochloride? --Leyo 12:46, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll have a chance to take a look tomorrow. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:46, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
It looks like you are right. From Chemical Abstracts: 123948-87-8 is the CAS number for topotecan free base, and 119413-54-6 is topotecan hydrochloride. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada Wikipedia page

I am the DCO (second-in-command)of the Camerons of Canada and have tried to edit the Wikipedia page on my Regiment to include better links (one of which is to the Regiment's own website). After editing the page I received a message that Wikipedia had reverted the page to how it was prior to my additions. If there is anyone who is more of a subject matter expert on the Regiment than I am, I already know them personally or would be very interested in corresponding with them. I want to make the article on the Camerons as complete and accurate as it can be. To do so I need to be able to edit it.

Beta-Benzenehexachloride

Hi Ed, Would you think the article Beta-Benzenehexachloride reliably named? This isn't about a benzene but about a hexane. You were the first editor to do something about this article, therefore I ask, before I suggest some bold action for it. Wim van Dorst (talk) 21:10, 21 June 2008 (UTC).

Confusingly, "benzenehexachloride" is used as a common name for the isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (as can be seen at PubChem or AlanWood.net), but now that you mention it, I think it would be a good idea to move that article to a title with a systematic name or a less confusing common name. What title would you suggest? -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:29, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Good morning.

Kindly give a look at the recently deleted "Ctoads" entry. This entry is relevant for a number of reasons. First, it is truly unique in the space. There is nothing like it both in design, content and function. The site is technologically unique in the world.

There are a number of functionalities on the site that are unique to it, not found anywhere else in the space. It is a "first" in many ways.

Thank you.

Hi Edgar.

I've looked at the article, but I'm sorry, it seems clear to me that it does not contain any content that suggests that Ctoads meets Wikipedia's notability requirements. Can you please specify how you think it meets any of the three criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (web)? -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:10, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Edgar.

I have made numerous lookups in Wikipedia. I confess that I am absolutely confused by your refusal to include this page among the 2.4 million entries in Wikipedia, thus far. Ctoads is absolutely unique in the world. With due humility, Its creator, Steven J. Manning, is an internationally known and respected authority in a couple industries, as well as a speaker on a wide variety of subjects. To all who read Ctoads and Steven J. Manning, this site absolutely satisfies your requirements.

Perhaps you will spend some time on the site. And contribute to it as well.

Thanks.

Steve. 65.37.182.201 (talk) 19:19, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Done. It's an interesting compound. That's not an easy synthesis - I'm surprised it's worth the trouble to make it and secretly add it to a product, rather than just adding a marketed ED drug. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:34, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, can you add a diagram to Calcium silicate? Badagnani (talk) 05:41, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Calcium silicate has a non-specific definition, and as far as I can tell is a mixture of different chemical compositions, so I don't think I diagram can be made to illustrate it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:22, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

I had requested on Talk:Hexaware that it should not be deleted, instead just put one liner stating it is an important IT company in India. I know the article was very much an advertisement written by some newbie. But I didn't have the time to correct it. So requested a hangon. But unfortunately it was deleted inspite of Keep request. --gppande «talk» 07:39, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

I deleted the article because the content was blatant advertising, full of PR doublespeak. There was no {{hangon}} on the article, but even if there was, it would still be appropriate to delete such an article. If you feel that it should be replaced with a "one liner stating it is an important IT company in India," please feel free to do so. In fact, it's better to do so now, after deletion of the inappropriate content. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:22, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
I need your help. I am working on a research project at Boston College, studying creation of medical information on Wikipedia. You are being contacted, because you have been identified as an important contributor to one or more articles.

Would you will be willing to answer a few questions about your experience? We've done considerable background research, but we would also like to gather the insight of the actual editors. Details about the project can be found at the user page of the project leader, geraldckane. Survey questions can be found at geraldckane/medsurvey. Your privacy and confidentiality will be strictly protected!

The questions should only take a few minutes. I hope you will be willing to complete the survey, as we do value your insight. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Professor Kane if you have any questions.

Thank You, Sam4bc (talk) 22:47, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:52, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Someone else marked Code available here as a copyright violation, which may or may not be true, but that's not the reason I deleted it. It seemed to me that you were just testing something because it only contained some source code, and therefore had no meaningful content as an encyclopedia article. If you are trying to simply share source code, there are other better places for that than Wikipedia. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:23, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, can you come up with a diagram for Miraculin? Badagnani (talk) 20:06, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

As a protein, that's another one I don't have the tools to create. Perhaps User:Fvasconcellos can help out. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:08, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Idea

I have an idea: for compounds for which structures can't be created, could we have a field that says "Molecular diagram: none" or something similar, so people like me don't bother people like you when we find that there's no diagram at a particular article? Badagnani (talk) 20:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps it's something you can suggest at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemicals or Wikipedia talk:Chemical infobox, though I suspect it would be difficult to draw a line between those for which structure diagrams can't be created from those that are very difficult to create. But in any case, I'm not bothered at all by the requests. Also, are you aware of Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry/Image Request? Making requests there might be a good idea so that other chemists who may have different skills and/or tools than me for creating chemical diagrams can help out too. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Also, I left a question for you at talk:isohumulone, if you haven't seen it yet. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:47, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Did you notice that this IP had not edited since their final warning? Cheers TigerShark (talk) 23:25, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I did notice. But in my mind when one IP has made essentially the same vandalous edit six times over the course of a week and been warned multiple times about it, it is clear they are ignoring warnings and are likely to persist. A short block is warranted and likely to prevent further vandalism, in my opinion. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:31, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I would agree if they had been given a final warning, but they had only continued after being given a couple of requests to stop. Once they were given a final warning, they stopped (well, as far as we know, because of course they are now blocked). Why is this different to a user who makes the edits within a few minutes and receives the same warnings? There is, I guess, an argument that we are too lenient to wait for a final warning even in those cases, but that is fairly standard practice. Would be good to hear your thoughts. Cheers TigerShark (talk) 23:37, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I understand your point. But I generally would block at the same point even if all the edits were made more rapidly, too. Admins have a range of attitudes about blocking IPs, and I'm sure I fall slightly towards the less tolerant end. For obvious persistent vandals such as this one and with a relatively short block, it probably doesn't make that much difference one way or another, though. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:44, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
