Idaho Legislature

The Idaho Legislature is the lawmaking body of the State of Idaho. It consists of the Idaho Senate and the Idaho House of Representatives. The Idaho Senate contains 35 Senators, who are elected from 35 districts. The Idaho House of Representatives consists of 70 Representatives, who are elected from the same 35 districts, with 2 being elected from each one. As of 2000, each legislative district in the state of Idaho had approximately 37,000 residents.

Elected Officials

The 58th Idaho Legislature (2005-06) sees Republicans controlling both chambers. The 58th Idaho Senate contains 28 Republicans and 7 Democrats, with the 58th Idaho House of Representatives contains 57 Republicans and 13 Democrats.

Location and Time of Operation

The Idaho State Legislature convenes at the Idaho State Capitol in downtown Boise. The Legislature meets annually from January until mid-March, although sessions have been known to last into May. The Idaho Capitol is open to the public during afternoon hours on most weekdays.
