Wuppertal is a city in Germany (pop. ca. 380,000 - 1994). In is located on the Wupper river in the Bundesland of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a major industrial centre including such industries as: textiles, metallurgy, chemicals, rubber, vehicles, printing equipment, and beer. One of the city's greatest attractions is the elevated railway.

History

The city was formed in 1929 by merging the Barmen, Elberfeld, Vohwinkel, and several smaller towns. During World War II it was heavily bombed by the Allies as where many other industrial centres at the time.
