Railway is a German hard rock band from Munich .

history

The band was formed in 1977. The name Railway is derived from the former rehearsal room in the basement of a train station. After the first EP Just Imagination and numerous appearances in and around Munich, a record deal was signed with Roadrunner Records in 1984 . The first album Railway sold 10,000 times. In 1985 Railway had reached the zenith of their success, the second album Railway II sold 15,000 copies, and it was also released in Canada, Russia, Japan, England and other countries. Concerts with rock and metal greats such as Manowar , Motörhead , Russ Ballard and Twisted Sister followed. In 1987 the third album Climax was released , and Roadrunner was separated. In 1988 guitarist Herman Janowitz died of cancer.

After various line-up changes, the fifth album To Be Continued was released in 1991 and Welcome Tonight in 1993 . These albums were also released in Japan, but overall sales fell short of expectations. After the release of the seventh album Persecution Mania in 1995, the band disappeared from the scene for over 10 years. On November 30, 2006 Railway played a reunion show in Munich with the new guitarist Armin Köberl. In February 2008 the compilation Finally Back - The Very Best of 20 Years was released on Planet Rock Records.
