Jan Albert Venter (born April 23, 1988 in Hartenbos, Western Cape) is a South African swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events.[1] Venter represented South Africa at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 4×200 m freestyle relay, along with his fellow swimmers and teammates Sebastien Rousseau, Darian Townsend, and Jean Basson, who missed out of the medal podium in the 200 m freestyle. Venter and his team reached the final of this event, after placing eighth from the preliminary heats, with an African record-breaking time of 7:10.91.[2] He swam on the third leg of the final, with an individual-split time of 1:49.56, finishing again in eighth place to the South African team, for a total time of 7:13.02.[3]
At the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, Venter and his swimming team set another African record-breaking time of 7:08.01 in the heats of the men's 4×200 m freestyle relay.[4]
