Cameron Maybin was born on April 4, 1987 in Arden, North Carolina. He was selected in the 1st round with the 10th pick of the 2005 MLB Ametuer Draft by the Detroit Tigers. He currently plays for one of their A minor league affiliates, the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Scouting Report

Maybin stands at 6'3" and weighs 200 lbs. He is an extremely exciting and athletic outfield prospect that has the long, strong wiry limbs similar to Darryl Strawberry or Eric Davis. His raw, phsyical tools are impressive, highlighted by his power potential. He displays very good speed and natural grace in the outfield and on the basepaths. He also possesses a very strong arm, that serves him well in center or right field. Given his tall, lanky frame, Maybin presents a large strike zone, and given his long limbs his swing can get rather long. While his athletic skills are undeniable, he does have a lot to work on, but with tools he's the type of player that just cant be passed up.

Minor League Career

Maybin made his minor league debut on April 6, 2006. As of May 19, 2006, he is hitting .300 with 1 home run and 19 runs batted in. His only flaw so far is that he has already struck out 30 times in 27 games and 100 at bats.
