Cynops chenggongensis

The Chenggong fire belly newt (Cynops chenggongensis) is a species of newts of China.

The genus Cynops is due for a split; the Chinese species will be one genus and the Japanese species another. Cynops chenggongenis is at the centre of a debate about the validity of Cynops cyanurus and Cynops chenggongensis. Most of the captive animals labelled C. cyanurus could be C. chenggongensis. Further analysis of the genus is needed to clarify the situation.
