Boonah is a town of approximately 3000 persons 84 km south-west of Brisbane, Queensland. Its name is Aboriginal Australian and means bloodwood tree.

It is the hub of a large agricultural area, including cattle, cereal grains, carrots, potatoes and timber.

It is also nearby to several National Parks including Main Range National Park and Mount French National Park, as well as Lake Moogerah, which is popular with tourists.

Nearby also is Boys Town, a juvenile detention centre where young male offenders learn farming skills and animal husbandry.
