Alexi Giannoulias

Alexi Giannoulias is the Democratic candidate for Illinois State Treasurer in the 2006 election. He is the son of Alexis Giannoulias a Greek immigrant who founded the well known Broadway Bank in the late 1970's. He was victorious against the Illinois' Democratic Party's "machine" candidate Paul Mangieri in the March 2006 primary.

Giannoulias is being hailed as one of the State's most promising political talents. Only 30 years old, he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Economics (from Boston University, after transfering from the University of Chicago), played professional basketball overseas (the A1 Euroleague team "Panionios"), has a law degree (from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans where he graduated near the top of his class), has founded his own not-for-profit corporation (the "AG Foundation"), and perhaps most notably, he is the protege of United States Senator Barack Obama.
