Edmundo Jarquín (born in Ocotal, September 1946) is a Nicaraguan politician. He was the vice presidential running-mate of Herty Lewites, who was the presidential candidate for the MRS Sandinista Renovation Movement in the 2006 elections until his untimely death in July 2, 2006.[1] Edmundo Jarquín became the presidential candidate for the MRS following Herty's unexpected death. He chose Carlos Mejía Godoy to be his running mate.

Edmundo Jarquín was educated in Nicaragua (Universidad Centroamericana - UCA), as well as in Chile (Universidad de Chile), where he obtained a law degree. During the previous Sandinista regime, he served as ambassador of Nicaragua to Spain and to Mexico. After the Sandinista defeat in the elections of 1990, he became a member of the National Assembly for the FSLN. In 1992, he joined the the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington, until his retirement in 2005.

He is currently married to Claudia Lucía Chamorro, the daughter of former president Violeta Barrios Chamorro.

At the time of his death, Herty Lewites was polling in third place behind Daniel Ortega and Eduardo Montealegre. Despite the interruption in the campaign caused by Lewites’s death, Jarquín is now also polling in third place.
