Statue of Mancs

Mancs (full name Miskolci Sátán Mancs, b. 1994) is a male German Shepherd dog, the most famous rescue dog of the Spider Special Rescue Team of Miskolc, Hungary. His name means "paw".

Mancs and his owner László Lehóczki took part in several rescue missions after earthquakes including the 2001 earthquakes in El Salvador and India. He became famous in 1999 when, with his help, a 3-year-old girl was rescued from under the ruins where she spent 82 hours after the Izmit earthquake in Turkey.

In December 2004 a statue of Mancs was erected in downtown Miskolc, near the Szinva stream and the new public square Szinva Terrace. The statue was cast by sculptor Borbála Szanyi.
