María Josefina Bolívar (1975) is a Venezuelan lawyer, businesswoman and politician. She was presidential candidate twice for the United Democratic Party for Peace and Freedom (PDUPL) in the presidential elections of 2012[1] and 2013. [2] She also participated for the same party in the regional elections of 2012[3][4] and was candidate for the mayoralty of Maracaibo in the municipal elections of 2013.[5] In 2015 she is postulated for the circuit 4 of Zulia in the parliamentary elections and in 2017 she was admitted as candidate for the Constituent National Assembly.[6]

Biography

Bolívar was born Maturín and moved to Maracaibo with her parents.[7] She studied her elementary education in Fe y Alegría y the Epifanía School.[7] In 2002 she graduated from the University of Zulia as a lawyer. Years later she married Portugese Mario Vieira and together they openes the "Mayami" bakery in Maracaibo.[8]

2012 presidential elections

On February 2012 she inscribed her candidacy for United Democratic Party for Peace and Freedom (PDUPL) for the 2012 presidential elections.[9] On 23 August 2012, during an interview for the news channel Globovisión, she gained notoriety for her inability to understand the question of journalist Aymara Lorenzo about how the candidate was going to control the inflation of the country, as well as her phrase dame una ayudaíta (give me a little help).[10][11][12] Bolívar finished in the fifth place in the elections, obtaining 7308 votes, 0,04% of the total.[13]

2013 presidential elections

After the death of president Hugo Chávez and the anouncement of new presidential elections on 14 April 2013, Bolívar confirmed her new candidacy for the PDUPL for the presidency of Venezuela.[14] During her campaign, which started in Caracas,[15] her government plan included access to foreign currency to all Venezuelans,[16] free education and other services, besides informing the "mediatc war" of candidates los candidatos Nicolás Maduro and Henrique Capriles.[17] Bolívar received 13 227 votes in the elections, 0,08% of the total, doubling her votes for the same position six months before and finishing in the fourth place.[18]

Candidacy for the Zulia governship

On 12 October 2012 she inscribed her candidacy for the PDUPL for the regional elections carried out on 16 December 2012,[19] in which Bolívar competed against Pablo Pérez (candidate for the Democratic Unity Roundtable and reelection), Iris Rincón (candidate for NUVIPA) and Francisco Arias Cárdenas (candidate for the PSUV).[20] Bolívar occupied the fourth place on the elections with 620 votos, 0,04% of the total.[21]

Candidacy for the Maracaibo mayoralty

Bolívar announced in the Zulian television channel Aventura Televisión that she would run as a candidate again for the mayoralty of Maracaibo. She obtained the fourth place in the election with 1723 votes, 0,30% of the scrutiny.[22]

2015 parliamentary elections

The politician announced her candidacy supported by the PDUPL as a member of the National Assembly for circuit 4 of Zulia, which corresponds to the Venancio Pulgar, Idelfonso Vásquez, y Antonio Borjas Romero parishes of Maracaibo.[23]

2017 Constituent National Assembly

María Bolívar preinscribed and was admitted by the National Electoral Council as a candidate for the 2017 Constituent National Assembly in the Bank-Commerce sector, , claiming that "the spaces that allow the change that the Venezuelans demand cannot be abandoned».[24].[25]
