Benedetta Bianchi Porro (8 August, 193623 January, 1964) was born in Dovadola, Forli. She became ill with polio during her teens.

In October 1953, at the age of 17, she enrolled in medical school to realize her dream of helping others.

Porro fell victim to the rare disease Von Recklinghausen's disease, which quickly leaves sufferers blind and deaf. She was forced by her illness to leave medical school. She succumbed on January 23, 1964.

In December of 1994, the Roman Catholic Church declared her a venerable person.
