Kontoor Brands is a lifestyle apparel company based in the US. The company designs, manufactures, and distributes apparel products.[1]

History

Kontoor was a part of the VF Corporation and was spun off in May 2019 when VF split into two separate companies.[2] The company was formed as a strategy to create an independent business focused on denim apparel.[3][4]

The company currently houses brands such as Lee, Wrangler, and Rock & Republic.[5][6] It is headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina.[7]

The company trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol KTB and is currently valued at $2.214 billion.[8]

Social responsibility

In December 2019, Kontoor Brands achieved a zero-waste status for its distribution facilities in Mexico City, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia. The facilities are reported to recycle, compost, and reuse 95% of the waste material.[9]

The company has taken steps to cut down on its environmental impact and reduce its carbon-footprint through optimizing Wrangler’s supply chain to promote environmental sustainability.[10][11]

Lee has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by joining the Ellen McArthur Foundation's Jeans Redesign project in 2019. The company launched Indigood Denim which uses a foam dye applicator instead of the conventional water vats and chemical baths. The new strategy resulted in a 60% energy and 89% chemical usage reduction, and eliminated the use of water in the dyeing process.[12][13]
