Ayawaso Central is located in the Accra Metropolitan Area of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.[1] It is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and also part of the 29 MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region.[2][3]

The Municipal Assembly was carved out of Accra Metropolitan Area.[4]The municipal capital is Kokomlemle.

History

The history of Ayawaso Central dates back to the days of the former president of Ghana Kwame Nkrumah, when Kwei Mensah who was known to be the first person to settle on the land joined several others in the country for the fight for multi-party democracy.[5][6]

The current Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr. Ishmael Nii Ashitey, read a speech on behalf of the President of Ghana said, the new assemblies, which were created was in accordance with the 1992 Constitution and Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 963) of the Constitution of Ghana.[7][8]
