Ayawaso Central is located in the Accra Metropolitan Area of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.[1] It is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and also part of the 29 MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region.[2][3]

The Municipal Assembly was carved out of Accra Metropolitan Area.[4]The municipal capital is Kokomlemle.[5]

The current Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr. Ishmael Nii Ashitey, read a speech on behalf of the President of Ghana said, the new assemblies, which were created was in accordance with the 1992 Constitution and Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 963) of the Constitution of Ghana.[8][5]

The first Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) is Alhaji Ababio Mohammed Quaye.[9][6]
