Chiclets
Chiclets are a brand of candy coated chewing gum made by Cadbury Adams. The product's name is derived from the Spanish word chicle (chewing gum) derived from (Nahuatl tziktli), the substance from which chewing gum was traditionally made. The original flavor was peppermint but many flavors have been added and discontinued over the decades since the introduction in 1906. Assorted fruit flavor is still available in Mexico, U.S. and Canada.
In some countries, like Belgium and Turkey, the term 'Chiclet' or 'Chic' is often used to refer to any brand and/or type of chewing gum.
Many Americans who cross the U.S.-Mexican border are commonly approached by impoverished or homeless native Mexican children asking for money and generally offering a small pack of Chiclets or another brand (Canals or Cloret). Some times or not, people will give money and not take the gum.
The Gum has fallen in popularity over the years and is now often infamous as being a Halloween treat. The gum is no longer widely popular but available for sale in Canada and Singapore (where, ironically chewing gum is an illegal item).
